If Seabrook hits the market, a team like the Oilers would jump at the chance to give him 8-9 million to try and sign him.
As for the Hawks, more term, less cap hit per year, and yes, maybe at the end of the contract, it becomes an albatross for them, but right now, it is a very good deal for both sides. Seabrook is one of the main leaders for this team, and if he left, it would have been devastating for the Hawks. Kane being dealt would not be as bad as losing Seabrook...you do not easily replace guys like that on defence. - plyrs99
As much as the Oilers would love Seabrook , they wouldn't likely be in the market, not for that kind of money. They're going to have enough cap issues in a few years, nothing unmanageable, but enough that the Oil can ill afford to over pay UFA's like they have been lately.
Your favorite team made poor decisions. Therefore, your opinion is less useful than his. - PhillySportsGuy
Chicago fans know more about Hockey than anyone because the Blackhawks have had more success than anyone else in recent years, don't ya know? That's why us Oilers fans are hanging around eating paint chips and sticking our tongues on metal fences in the winter, duh.

I thought that was just because there was nothing else to do in Edmonton?

In a way, this deal is paying Seabrook for what he has accomplished, not what he's going to bring for 8 years. In that sense, yeah, it was a bad deal, but good defenders don't grow on trees and you know what you're getting with him. They have a capable top-2/4 defender they can rely on. - Blackstrom2
Im just saying with Yost, is that he craps on everything that isn't Karlsson.
When a guy can say that paying 5m to a injury prone guy to hes 34 in Methot is a good move bc hes under rated elite Defensive Defenceman. Get out here Yost with that crap
Then you get the knuckle heads that will start the "would the Hawks be better off to trade Seabrooks and sign Franson" train. Seriously how are some guys employed to write about hockey with this troll click bait crap

An angry, but honest Coga - puckhead17
yeah I have been hot about Yost and the Pension Plan Puppets guys at SB Natiion this week. They have been hammering the Avs with the EJ extension, ripping on Roys interview that he had with LeBrun Lots of negative comments from guys who are die hard sens and leaf fans who like to crap on everything else around the league.
Hide behind their Wowy charts acting like hockey prophets. Need real hockey to start already

Seabs would've brought 8 mil on the open market, and someone would've paid that for 7 years for sure. If the bidding was heated enough, he might've got 8 mil for the same 8 years the Hawks gave him. This is a genuine hometown discount. It's not reasonable to expect him to sacrifice both salary AND term.
50% of Cap for 5 players?
How is that sustainable? - StargateSG1
Guess we'll have to play a few seasons and find out. I'll go way out on a limb and promise you that the Hawks will win another cup before the Redwings do.

Thats why he hates the signing...Everyone complaining is upset because they hoped the Hawks would trade him and there team would have a shot at landing him or that without Seabrook the Hawks would be weaker and not win another cup...

Pretty much. People love to see the mighty fall as well, just the nature of things.everyone knows Seabrook is one of the pieces that helps Chicago contend going forward, and could be the missing piece for a solid 25-26 teams to improve. Haters need to piss off.
You acknowledging the fact that he didn't personally have anything bad to say about Crawford just makes you look like more of a turd for jabbing at the Flyers then.
Failing to understand context also doesn't do anything to suggest arrogance. Ignorance maybe, but not arrogance. Arrogance could be assumed if I chose to be condescending and point out your improper use of the conjunction "you're". - ehabs9
This is good. Have to disagree about Crawford though, he is expendable for that team in terms of who they need to lock up. Hossa I think ought to be the odd man out after him. Everyone concerned about how they can make this work, but the cap will go up and Chicago will continue to develop and trade for young guys. The rest of the league still hasn't caught up to Bowman and aren't prepared to make moves like with Saad or letting Niemi/Bolland walk.
Does anyone prefer the Oscar Keifbaum(EDMONTON) deal over this one? 3 cups and a gold medal over 45 NHL games? I prefer Seabrook's deal - Weakglovehand20
Can't comment on the Klefbom deal for a few years....could be a busy, could be a so-so deal, could be a steal...who can really know?
