Do you know what goes into the reconstruction of a bridge/overpass?
Posted: Tuesday, May 26, 2015
Elmwood Avenue Bridge Replacement Project Begins June 1
The New York State Department of Transportation is undertaking a project to replace the bridge on Elmwood Avenue over NY Route 198 and Scajaquada Creek. Starting June 1, lane closures will be in place on the Elmwood Avenue bridge over Route 198. The two westernmost lanes will be closed for construction through winter. One lane of traffic will be maintained in each direction on the eastern side of the bridge.
In addition, the off-ramp from Route 198 onto Elmwood Avenue heading northbound will be closed during both summers and possibly over the winter. Heading south on Elmwood, drivers will find the on-ramp heading east on the 198 will also be closed during both summers and possibly over the winter. Detours will be posted.*This project is scheduled to be completed in fall 2016. Please consider these upcoming impacts when planning your commute.
For more information, please visit the NYSDOT website.
*Please note this correction to the original announcement, which stated that the off-ramps from Route 198 onto Elmwood Avenue would be closed for the duration of the project.

Having an understanding of it doesn't make us want it to be done and out of the way any less. We all know that you can't just snap your fingers and have it be completed. Doesn't mean we have to like dealing with it though. - HonkFortheGoose
Many bridge decks throughout the western New York area were in desperate need of total reconstruction.
Some of these projects (in my opinion) they pushed the envelope with in terms of waiting a year or two longer than the NYSDOT really should have.
Meanwhile, the Peace Bridge (Gateway) project , my company in concert with Union Concrete and Construction Corp. will have wrapped up next year as well.
The majority of barrier wall and concrete pavement has already been completed.
The next phase (next spring) is really all the custom concrete work which is my specialty on, near or along Porter.
These are enormous projects that take time and that require the general public's patience. |

It has been a long , hard fight . Now we have to sell them . Cost me and my partner over 4 million when it should have costed around 1 mill to get to this point. over 1 million on lawyers to date in this fight. If anyone is interested in what my company does you can check out my dealer site at www.maximumsignal.info - Maximum Signal
That's an interesting concept, and I hope it works out.
I have to imagine that at least part of the legal fight is with car manufacturers that are starting to put that technology in their vehicles already, like Chevrolet? |

I drink too much coffee. I have a very poor diet, and I drink alot of Genesee beer. From time to time, I get weeping hemorrhoids. Though I'm not nearly as fit as I used to be, I still run 5K 3 - 5 times a week. When I do, I perspire pretty hard, and big streams of sweat tend to roll down my back, across my hips and down to the bottom of my torso.
During these runs, if I wear regular unders (as opposed to spandex) they tend to bunch up in my buttcrack, where the combination of my lifestyle and my exercise produces disastrous results.
No point here, really, except to say that certain visitors to this board remind me of that phenomenon.
EDIT:
Ciao for now, y'all. - Whatnot78

Our product actually makes 4G work better. We are going to be in negotiation soon with a couple car manufacturers ( being facilitated by Verizon and AT&T) we increase the reception dramatically . Been at this for 13 years now. The FCC change all the rules 2 years ago as there was lots of bad products in our field that screwed with the cellular networks ( not us ) We have always worked with the carriers while our competitors did not.

This is true and we'll definitely be safer for it. I've never seen so many bridges under construction at once. I was just hoping we'd have that magical time period where construction is over and winter hasn't begun yet. |

I have been doing this for 27 years now and I said the exact same thing a couple times this year.
Decrepit and in disrepair doesn't even really explain how poor of condition some of these bride decks/overpasses were. |

Greater Sensitivity , ours can find a signal of -127 and make it usable , Competitors unit need a signal of -104 to be effective your phone senses signal up to -116 then is useless
Greater range . Our units depending on model has greater range. Our car unit does up to 8 phones at once while competitors can do 3 at most , Indoor antenna on car unit has a range of 8 to 10 feet , their 1 to 3 feet at best , IN RV package we have a range from antenna of 25 to 30 feet . Theirs 3 to 6 at best
Our amplifiers works on multiple carriers at the same time. Theirs works only on the first network it locks on to.
We draw far less power
Those are just a few.
I have always sold a lot to federal and state agencies. Even the State of Utah where my main competitor is based use my product and not theirs. We spend our money on R&D where as my competitors spend it on advertising
This new product we have been developing for over 4 years . This is brand new technology! |

The "great in the locker room" concept might be the most overrated one in sports. Andrew Peters was considered to be "great in the locker room". It almost seems like an excuse to keep well-liked people around because they're afraid of hurting feelings. - buffalofan19
It only works if you are good.
I have no interest in Mike Weber being "vocal" about being a bad defensemen |

Nashville is building parts of the bridges in sections along the interstate... I guess they are doing a bunch of bridges at the same time. I can't wait for that cluster(frank) to happen.
Traffic is poop here without construction but we all understand that this needs to be done. |

That's just it. The only players that you seem to hear are "good in the locker room" are ones that aren't very good. |

I know. And I'm glad they're doing them. There are still many that desperately need to be fixed. It just sucks trying to get around town in the meantime, that's all. |

Honestly, in areas like that, if you can avoid going through there at all (meaning unless you literally need to go to something in that immediate stretch of road) I would recommend finding a different route. Overall it normally would probably take longer to do that, but with how bad it can get in that area, it would probably actually save you time to just go around a slightly longer way. |
