He definitely has the skill and speed to produce with other skill players.

I'm serious. He produced with the Sedins last year and then sucked when he was playing with grinders. He should do fine with skill guys.
- Nucker101

The things I don't like about him are 1) he's a perimeter player 2) he's soft as hot butter & he's not the greatest skater. Not poor just not good.

McCann is five years younger, just as offensively skilled, he's a better skater, past history says he plays more in the dirty areas and he's got a chip on his shoulder...which Vey doesn't have - at all.

You probably were saying something similar about Gaunce last year..... if he doesn't earn a contract extension playing with Utica this year, fine but wishing decent if not amazing prospects leave the system is ridiculous.

He was talking about Jensen, not Horvat.

Despite Nuckers sarcasm - Vey is a skilled player, and he's only just turned 24 years old. It'll be nice to see him with some players that can produce offensively.

Boy it's been awhile since guys were actually competing for jobs

- LeftCoaster

I think you said the exact same thing about Jensen...

When did Vey play with the twins? You mean on the PP?

Sutter's useless! Trade him back to Pittsburg for Bonino, Clendenning and our 2nd... oh, and Dummolin and a 1st for doing them a favor taking him for a couple months!

Instead of losing Jensen to the khl or europe maybe with can put him in a package with idk Higgins and Sbisca. poop we can probably get a Alexandre Daigle for that kind of package

That's what successful franchises do with asset management. Calgary this past off-season traded Max Reinhart who has similar if not better numbers than Jensen but couldn't crack the lineup and was in the final year of his entry level deal and he slipped down the depth chart

So they trade him for a 4th and move on.

I actually like Jensens development. He has all the tools, he just has to understand the bottom six role better if he hopes to make the NHL.

He is what 6'3"? So is got size but doesn't use it consistently.
He will be perfect for bottom 6.

Sometimes it's lost on people that it takes 12 forwards to fill the roster, not six. Jensen can skate, he's got an NHL body and he's got a great shot, what's not to like about him in the bottom six?

Hansen was 22 when he first made it for a full season, last year was Vey's first year and he was 23, all is not lost for this kid if he has the wherewithall to succeed in a bottom six role.

So are you saying that the willingness to get punched in the face is not crucial to the effectiveness of a bottom 6 player?

In all seriousness though I thought he was one of the best players in training camp last year and from the few games I watched of Utica last year, he was a solid 2 way player. Needs to still learn when to take risks but his skating allows him to get back in a hurry and uses his size much like Higgins does along the boards.

The problem is that he will need time to make this change. Travis should just coach him and play him in defensive positions and have him start hitting. If he got this down he would be perfect for NHL bottom 6 as he already has what he needs to be an effective bottom 6 forward offensively.

He needs to come to terms with the fact that he's not going to be a top six and if he wants to play in the NHL he's going to have to become a little harder nosed. If he can't or won't do that then I'm sure he could rock the Swiss league.

yeeeaaaah...might have to digress on Higgins a bit. Pegged him for more like 5'11" at around 195. He is listed at 6' / 205 just can't see it...
