I don't recall anyone bashing Lehner ...,they bashed the value GMTM paid for him...some did, others defended it on a wait and let's see basis.
From what I watched, he didn't have many tough saves. He was beaten but Nylander 1 on 1, but got lucky Nylander couldn't hit an empty net. He made some saves as well. Rather pedestrian performance...which I'll take for now to help his confidence.
But I wouldn't organize a parade just yet...like Tryrod...let's see some more..so far so good...now deliver consistently. - IonSabres

Number 21 historically is a long shot to even make it to the NHL let alone make the kind of impact that a starting goalie would make on a playoff team(which is what Murray paid for). Sure Giroux, Eberle, Varlamov, Pacioretty, and Maata were picked around 21 but for every one of them you have four of Frederik Gauthier, Bobby Sanguinetti, John Moore, Tim Erixon and Anton Gustafsson. It's nothing more than a crap shoot at/around that pick, except with craps you at least have a decent chance of winning, hell, some bets are almost even money. There isn't a single person in the NHL that knows Lehner better than TM. You could say he might be a little too locked in on him, but to this point he really doesn't seem the type.
Has he "overpaid" for the players he's acquired(not just Lehner)? Well, I guess it all depends on your definition of "overpaid" and the opportunity cost of acquiring said player. Some of the players like Grigorenko, Armia and Stafford were all superfluous to the current team, Lemieux was never going to sign his ELC, so no matter how good he might one day be he too, was superfluous. Picks are picks and prospects are prospects. Myers and Zadorov were really the only players we gave up that would have any value to the team as it currently sits, but you have to give to get, and this team is far better for having made those moves. At least in the short term; Murray might have two brass ones, but no one has a crystal ball. To me, the goal is to create a winner sooner rather than later, and waiting 4-5 years for a maybe when he can have an established player now whom he knows a good deal about, to me, is a fair trade.

2005 Tuukka Rask taken at 21
2004 Cory Schneider at 26
2002 Cam Ward at 25
2006 Semyon Varlamov at 23 Leland Irving at 26
2008 Chet Pickard at 18 Tom McCollum at 30
2010 Mark Visentin at 27
all I learned from this is I am bored, and Schneider is older then I thought he was.

You can repeat this until you're blue in the face and many people here will never get it and just keep beating their "its not what i would have done" drum.....but, they also work part time at the drive through window at mcDonalds and base most of their hockey knowledge off of video games. So, you're wasting your breath.

Where is the Lehner fan club? Had no problem bashing him today. I just think he needs time TM the GM knows him better than everyone here put together. I will put my faith in him on this one as well! - Maximum Signal
Oh brother.
I'll keep bashing Murray and swiss cheese Lehner.
I'm not some brain dead follower that rides Murray's jock everywhere.
Get a room with him for God's sake.
Lehner was bailed out on a few sure goals for Toronto.
But keep on keeping on Helen Keller.
Some (not all) of you are so easily sold.
Rangers have under a million dollars in cap space and they need to pay Kreider, Hayes, Miller, after this season. Kinda like a Boychuk, Leddy scenario maybe? - Punch70
so no reason to trade Yandle now. The Rangers are going for another try at the Cup and are under the cap for this season. Yandle's 2.6 cap hit is gold for them.
Makes no sense to trade him now unless they are blown away by the offer.

I agree with this, except the opening word. There is a big difference between bashing the player, and bashing the cost of acquiring said player. See O'Relly, Ryan (ROR).
I happen to be on the side of Murray for many of the reasons you listed in the ensuing paragraphs. If Lehner fails, then GMTM takes one on the chin...which I'd rather have an aggressive GM like Murray than a hand sitter like Darcy.
Now, just don't become reckless Timmy, maintaining a strong pipeline also creates value from being able to trade veterans in the future.

Freedom of speech protects your rights to speak out against the government. It has nothing to do with protecting your right to speak like an idiot. It's why you can't yell fire in a movie theater or start screaming in a residential neighborhood at 4 am.

I'm not blind. As a matter of fact, I paid $3600 this year just so that I didn't have to wear any type of corrective lenses. I currently have 20/15 vision.
I thought he put in exactly the kind of performance we'll need from him for the most part during the year. Nothing hugely spectacular, but efficient. Period. The 3rd period was where he did his best work.
