Every trade has each GM hoping that they got hte better end but no one will know for years and years to come. Who knows what happens. TM has his own opinion on what he wants here and so does every other GM.
I hate arm chair GMs that say they could do it better or "oh why didn't we just trade for this guy" or "oh we should have just signed this guy for cheaper"

I didnt love the lehner trade. With that being said, its too soon to judge lehner when we havent iced our complete lineup in front of him yet. - joshs
And probably won't for a few weeks into the season either since it seems half our D group is hurt. |

McCabe being hurt 2 preseasons in a row is a bit concerning. I was hoping that Bogo could put the injury concerns behind him this year, but that's apparently not in the cards.
The fact that Colaiacovo isn't hurt right now is kind of a miracle.
I guess this gives Pysyk the chance to prove he's capable of more than a bottom pair role though. |

Except that's not the choice here. It's would you rather Lehner over Lack and a 1st (or what the 1st would have brought in)? - Sabresfan-365
you don't get Lack and a 1st. that's not how it was.
It probably would have been Lack for the the 1st rounder or Lack for 2 2nd rounders. I forget what he ended up getting traded for and even to whom. |

That's perfectly fair. I'm not a huge fan of the fact that they gave up a 1st rounder for a goalie either, but I'm not about to crucify said goalie like many others have around here before he's even gotten 10 regular season games under his belt for us.
We also have to keep in mind that the GMs in the league had taken notice of the things Murray had done and probably the rumblings they were hearing about other potential moves. The price for anything we were going to do was higher because of that, IMO. - HonkFortheGoose
i agree with you that sakic would have asked/insisted on 21 if we had it. i think zadorov was the main piece going back, and in no way was colorado taking some combination of mccabe and 21 in lieu of zadorov. so the package of zadorov, grigorenko, 31, and compher went the other way. somebody said when we picked up lehner that brian murray called tim and said he had other offers and 31 wasnt gonna do it. im not crazy about giving up assets for any goalies (save hasek), but this is a guy murray scouted and likes (size and demeanor), and is controlled for a few extra years vs what was out there. so it appears to me that lehner was aquired for a pick that we would have lost anyway, and that pick was replaced in the oreilly deal with jt compher. i hope lehner does well, i expect him to have a rough year though. our d has to be bottom 5 (and thats with bogosian and gorges who i expect will play 120 games at most between them) and he is gonna have some long nights. |

I also don't think that these vets have to play every game of preseason in order to get ready for the regular season either. They could just be resting an ailment. Every player in the league is hurt... it just depends on how effective they are while playing with it.
It is amazing how depressing and negative Sabres fans can be after all the beautiful sh1t that has happened since last October. |

I'm not being negative. It's just not how I would have liked to ideally start the season. Bogosian and Gorges are said to be week to week. Meaning, don't expect them back by next week when the regular season starts.
Not sure if you've ever noticed, but I'm probably one of the most optimistic people on here, so the fact that you basically just called me out and said I'm negative is hilarious. |

Well then. I would be forced to believe that perhaps Couver wanted more from Murray because he saw what we were building and knows that Carolina is a bottom feeder.
Ward and Lack there and Khubodin goes to Anaheim where the biggest stash of goalies continues. I don't get Anahiem at all.
Calbot went to Calgary did he not? Didn't he go for a couple of 2nds then maybe? |

Talbot went to Edmonton, where goalies go to die. |

I wasn't even talking directly to you when I wrote that Goose.
Just talking overall for the whole group. Guys are gonna get hurt.. they are gonna miss some games. Doing 82 games as an ironman is more rare now. I look at some of these guys missing a few games as a chance for other guys to step up and get experience. Others view them missing 6 games to start the season as us missing the playoffs because of it. |

This one got me:
Who cares if Buffalo is better than us now? To be honest, I have a feeling Eichel will leave to Boston after his ELC. Just look at what Boston is doing now, they are planning ahead.
HAHAHA just like McDavid will be a Leaf after his ELC |

I've held the same opinion throughout the entire Murray tenure. I wanted to see some of the players moved potentially develop.
Yes Kane is exciting, yes O'reilly is good. Yes Bogosian is really average. But IMO, Zadorov, Myers, heck maybe even Grigorenko could end up being the better player in any one of the trades. I'm mostly alone in that opinion.....But I haven't flip flopped on it - sbroads24

I thought it'd be tough to beat the Lupul>Ennis Boyes>Girgensons and Kadri>Eichel post but yet again they continue to amaze me.

ok, perhaps I am optimistic, but we are talking about 1 game, tonight, where each of these players are today. Lupul is not injured, is he really worse then Ennis? Eichel is an 18 year old with all the potential in the world, is he going to be better then Kadri tonight? Similarly with Boyes and Girgensons. |
