Truth is truth.
I'm no homer.
He disappeared after that goal, its a fact. - BuffaloHardHat
Go listen to some Dan Bylsma sound bytes. He loves his play away from the puck. Sometimes, you're going to get that from Eichel. You don't hear him because he did nothing wrong nor anything offensively spectacular. I understand you're taking an objective view for once, but it seems like you never really have praise for anyone other than the worst defender on this team. If you can knock somebody, it's your go-to. And now you're knocking our franchise 18 year old center for not shredding up an exhibition game, despite the fact he's tied for 1st in points in the preseason to date.
Yeah, I might be a homer in loving Eichel, and I don't think you're much of a fan if you don't love him as a player or even at least respect his potential. But mark my words, he's going to be an excellent player and you'll be glad we sold off our mediocrity to land him. |

Having a guy like Eichel opens up the ice considerably for other players as well. The other team is keyed in on what Eichel is doing which allows the other players more space to work/navigate on the ice. So even if Eichel is having an "off" night, his presence still has a positive effect on the team, more often than not. |

Untrue.
If you perused what I had typed out just a few short posts ago,
you would know that I am going to withhold further judgement on any of Murray's moves till we are at least 20 games into the regular season.
That said:
Eichel is a rare talent.
However, the real truth of the other night against Toronto was that he pretty much pulled a Houdini after he scored his goal.
And, the whole topic had begun because of a comparison to Nylander.
To be fair, in totality, Nylander did indeed have a better game than Eichel.
If Sabres fans take the homer glasses off they would be able to say the same thing, and be comfortable with it.

Maybe you should take you Ted Nolan glasses off so you can realize that while he's a nice guy, he's not a good NHL coach. I wish him well in his future endeavors, but he was not the right guy for the job here at this juncture of the rebuild. |

5. Eichel was 6 of 10 on faceoffs, for 60%. Nylander was 3 of 8 for 38%. |

This is still you hating on how we ended up in the position to draft Eichel and the handling of how your boy Nolan got fired...
I suggest you build a bridge, lay the concrete and get over it. |

To be fair, Eichel disappeared after that shorty.
Didn't hear much from him the remainder of the game after that 1st period goal.
Granted I watched an edited version of the game on NHL network but I barely noticed him after that shorty, my wife even asked where he was, if he was injured or something.
Without homer glasses on, I suggest you watch the game back to grasp reality.
Then I watched swiss cheese have a few pucks just hit him (in the 3rd period) because of positioning (and please spare me goaltending is all about positioning, I know, I played the position in organized leagues and got shutouts in soccer nets as a youth) but on a few of those that hit swiss cheese, he had no idea where the puck was.
I know I know, at least the puck didn't make it through one of them holes.
Never seen a shutout so unimpressive to be fair.
As I said to CR yesterday, i'll give it 20 regular season games before I really come down on some of Murray's choices/decisions or who knows, I may have to give him credit on some. - BuffaloHardHat
Comparing you playing the position as a child which was at least 40 years ago probably closer to 50 makes you an expert on modern goaltending??
The way the position is played has changed drastically in the last 20 years and prior to that changed a handful of times as well. Goaltending is ALL about positioning these days. The athletic flop around style of Hasek or sit back as far as you can in the net like Curtis Joseph did are a dead style.
Goalies these days aren't so much trying to make a save as they are trying to get hit with the puck. Which is exactly why you are seeing these 6'4 monsters in between the pipes.

Perhaps stripes, I will concede that much.
Perhaps there is a stench and stain I need to clean up.
Further, that bridge you speak of is the 20 regular season games I am affording Murray's choices/decisions to build me into a believer or whether, said bridge leads to the edge of a steep cliff for many of you.

I can't imagine you spinning any kind of success/development of this team any other way than Murray being an idiot and Ted Nolan would have brought us to the cup. Hell, I'll boil both my shoes and eat them if I'm wrong. |

You don't have to like how it was handled (the Nolan firing). But it just seems that you are taking it to this personal level.
Posters on here don't like some of Murrays moves. I like most question the Lehner trade. Not because of the player acquired but because of what he gave up to get him.
But it's not like we are bashing the crap out of him and those players all day. I just don't get why you're so angry. |
