Today's practice lines...

Sedin - Sedin - Vrbata
Dorsett - Sutter - Vey
Gaunce - McCann - Hansen
Kenins - Horvat - Burrows/Grenier
Prust/Baertschi - Cracknell - Virtanen/Prust

Powerplay Units:

Sedin - Sedin - Vrbata
Sutter - Edler

Baertschi - Horvat - Burrows
Weber - Hutton

- Nucker101

Ok, my lineup.....

Forwards:

Sedin - Sedin - Burrows
Baertschi- Horvat- Vrbata
Prust- Sutter- Hansen
Gaunce- McCann- Dorsett

Extras:
Vey, Virtanen

IR:
Higgins

Defense:

Hamhuis/Tanev
Edler/Corrado
Sbisa/Weber

Extras:

Bart

Goalies:

Miller
Markstrom

When Higgins comes back, you send Virtanen back.....thats my thoughts....

After watching McCann a few games, he has definitely shown he can play with the big boys offensively and defensesively despite his size....

So when they say "open competition" what they really mean is "open competition for waiver eligible players only"

If a young kid looks ready, I say give him the spot. It'll be a big confidence boost, plus he's learning from NHL vets, and it shows the veterans and prospects in your organization that a rookie can earn a spot from a waiver eligible player making for a more competitive internal environment. It wouldn't be the end of the world if they kepet him up either, especially with WD as coach since he rolls all 4 lines and 3 D pairings. The only issue is that Hutton is a LHD.

- Nucker101

It could just as easily destroy his confidence. Let him build on it for a little while before you toss him to the wolves.

Are players actually afraid of goons??? Why? They don't fight anyone but other goons anymore.
- KB3Point0

Exactly. It's a team mentality, a couple of 4th liners doesn't change anything.

Yup, he's more physically and mentally mature at that age. My other argument is that he's outplayed every other fringe dman on this team during pre-season when all of them should be going at 100%. Any fringe player not going 100% during the pre-season probably isn't the kind of guy you want on your team.
- Nucker101

He's still a liability on D and for the most part unproven at the pro level. Sure Virtanen and McCann are unproven as well, but IMO its more important to have a more developed player play D.....

How is he anymore of a defensive liability than Sbisa/Weber/Corrado?

I might get in trouble for that but Vrabata should be on the first line to show case him for the tdl. The only way we can get maximum value for him.
- Yannick72

Vrbata will still be on 1st unit pp even if he is winger on the 2nd line. Try to balance out the scoring, Vrbata likes to handle the puck more than the Sedins like to share, he will be okay on the 2nd line.

These guys have at least played the pro game and I'm willing to bet over the long haul are far more reliable than Hutton....

Should be going at 100% Laughable... we know this isnt going to happen... we know it historically doesnt happen... the coaches have acknowledged it isnt happening... yet you are going to base all this on the preseason games... because they should be....

You cricise for being to quick to make moves.... and then this.... right...

How do you know he's not ready and that he'd fail? He's a 22 year old rookie. Not some 18 year old CHL'er.
- Nucker101

agree.

lots of guys are showing they can play in the show at young ages... no reason it can't a be a Canuck that does that this season...

You don't think WD expects his fringe Vets to be going at 100%?

From the article today that Carol wrote.

Willie Desjardins didn't make the trip to San Jose, but Jason Botchford reported after the game that Willie addressed the veterans in Vancouver before they got on the plane, asking them to pick up their performances.

The fact that he had to even address the team validates booners argument. Obviously not preferred by management but clearly its been acknowledged.....

You'd honestly rather have Sbisa-Weber out there late in a 2-1 game?

Sometimes a speech for a group is directed at a few.

Waiting to see if either McCann or JV get injured and they try to stretch out the 9 games like last season or if that would be pressing their luck.

Why the hell wouldn't a guy who doesn't have a spot locked up in the top 12F or top 6D not go 100%

And what was so radical about my proposed lineup?
