Lenner looked a mess through late in the 2d last night. But so did the whole team - and after the team started to play better, Lenner didn't look so bad. I think that's rust, and a lot of it.
I'm not sure Lenner will ever look like a true #1, and the first we gave for him was a lot, but then again, Hodgson and Kassian both were drafted higher than Konecny. |

I liked the line of Larson, Girgensons and Reinhart. They looked like they could do some damage along the way.
But I would rather see Reinhart on the 2nd RW with Eichel and Moulson...I know it's 2 rookies, but I trust those two together. Then they could push Gionta to the 3rd line with Larson and Girgs...

It's the value though, sure the player we drafted could of busted. Goalies that havnt proved much rarely go for 1sts. There are a lot of free agent goalies you get for free just by paying in offseason, hell our star goalie miller could of been had for free last year with a contract, sane with hiller who everyone wants. we are in a period where we have cap room avail so lehners smaller contract isn't a big deal.
Yes he's a RFA but two things will happen anyway, he's good and he gets paid a lot or he keeps a cheap contract which probably means he sucked this year. If we do pay him that would of been the same as getting talbot or lack with a lot cheaper pick and paying them after this year too if they were good.
I was the first one on here that wanted murray to target lehner when people wanted talbot or lack but one reason was I thought lehner would be the cheapest, not the highest. I still have faith since goalies usually don't mature until they are around 25 but man did he look bad on couple Goals last night. |

Agree, it's all rust. I'm surprised Kane is doing so well, considering the time off. Look at Risto; he looks like he hadn't played in a year. Just keep playing Lehner and he'll be fine.

The next couple of days could be fun as teams need to get down to the cap...I guess by Tuesday at 5:00...at the same time they have to trim the roster to 23?
Let's see what GMTM can do. |

It was a risky trade, acquiring a young goalie coming off a concussion. I hate the trade but am willing to give Lenner every opportunity to succeed. They could have had Lack for a lot less, that would have been my preference. The D is a bit of a hot mess at the moment.

If one of the three Calgary goalies get put on waivers, Murray should grab one of them fast.

Kane and Eichel have a lot of chemistry going right now. Put Ennis on that wing and play ROR-Moulson-Girgs on the other line. Our bottom 6 looks really good, lots of options there.
It's a huge concern that Lenner played so poorly against a mostly AHL team last night. |

There were a lot of horrible players in the first 40 minutes of that game. The best players on the team were all -2 or -3 last night (Eichel, Ennis, Kane, O'Reilly).
Not excusing Lehner in any way, but he had zero help out there for much of the first 2 periods. |

On last nights game, i know it's only pre season but i like that they actually fought back instead of rolling over.
Been a while since i've seen a sabres team do that. |

That's a fair point, I get that. But that's when the goalie has to stand on his head, make those big saves and keep his team in it in the early going. We know the D isn't good yet but we need Lenner to keep them in it. If not, gonna be a tough season and a lot of 5-4, 6-5 games.

It's not going to be a perfect year, i think most recognize that. There will be nights where The "big boys" will be less than stellar or the defence lets us down etc. That's all part of the growing pains. |

Yeah, I imagine you do....blech, crappy weather man.
I think that road washout was a couple counties inland oddly enough, but here on the beach it's ugly, apparently mattresses in a mattress store were seen floating all around inside. |

the lack of a quality backup IMO is the biggest void on this team |

If it was mid season, I'd agree for sure. But Lehner doesn't know the tendencies of the guys in front of him yet, they don't know his tendencies, and other than some preseason games, he hasn't played a game since February. Asking him to do something like that yesterday is a bit much. |

Agreed. Make no mistake, I don't expect them to be a playoff team and posted as such over the summer. Just a risky move to trade for Lenner and make him the #1. |

Honestly, I'm curious to see how Lieuwen does to start the year in Rochester. He was really starting to look good and then Jamie McBain began his string of injuring goalies here. |
