You think Manning is going to be #6, or they want to keep 8 D? Granted, I haven't seen all that much of him, but what I saw the other day against the Devils wasn't that great. - wolfhounds
Think they prefer him at 7th d man. He wasn't great and he's not awful. He's been playing safe hockey and granted he's on a pairing with L Schenn king of running all over the ice out of position..but he's picked his spots and been joining the offense. I like him more than for nothing |

Sandstrom seems like he's having a fairly good season for such a young player, and I'm glad he's getting into games with the senior team. Bill, how would you rate him compared to Stolarz when both were drafted?
Also, does Gagner have any clauses in his deal? I'm not sure it's been discussed at all internally, but theoretically, could they waive him if they wanted to an send him down? - jmatchett383
He's ahead of where Stolie was at the time of the 2012 draft. I don't think Anthony at age 18 could have stepped right into a league the caliber of the SHL and held his own (albeit in a small sample size.
Yes, Gagner could theoretically be waived as could other vets. Not expecting it but that is technically an available option. |

With Boston's injuries, I'm sure they'd love to add Manning for nothing. I don't think it would be a huge loss, but I'd rather pare down the roster some other way. - jmatchett383
I would have thought so, too, but they didn't pick up Zach Redmond who got waived by Colorado. He played 59 NHL games last season had had 20 points.

It seems like Gagner simmonds and read umberger have been fairly consistent pairings. I wonder if that's a regular season look or just an experiment. I'd prefer Schenn with simmonds if he can continue good.play at left wing |

Possibly in terms of opening night roster -- doesn't require waivers, for one thing -- but I think he will end up spending most of the year in Philly when all is said and done. |

Ugh. All I'm hearing is we're going to run our "top 4" into the ground because the bottom 4 all have warts. Manning and AMac as 5/6 is a little scary. |

A lot of games against NJ end up looking that way, so I'm not sure it was just fatigue. However, the pacing of practices throughout camp has been very, very high tempo (the first day was the fastest I'd ever seen on an opening day and it's only been slightly dialed back) so I think there could have some of that "dead leg" syndrome at work as well.

Bill, do you think there is any chance at all of either:
They find someone to take Vinny off their hands
or
Vinny realizes he's shot and retires during or right after the season? |

I was in the scrum.... Hexy's used variations of that line throughout camp, usually with a grin. Yesterday, for whatever reason, he caught Panotch's eye and both started laughing which made everyone else laugh. |

The everyday headlines of hextall trying to trade umberger vinny or L Schenn are so riveting I wonder how much time they spent thinking hard on how to report it 6x a day |

No to the first, maybe to the second. It is a poorly kept secret that he never really intended to play the final year of the deal unless he was still going strong by that point (the year was added for cap mitigation). So he'd have to decide to forgo two years instead of one. Some of it will probably depend also on whether he feels the Flyers have truly given him a fair chance to show he can still play effectively. I can see where he's coming from but I also saw all along where Chief was coming from, too. The team spent much of 2013-14 trying Lecavalier in various places around the lineup and nothing seemed to click. Last year, Berube wanted to avoid doing that again. |
