By reputation perhaps. I wouldn't take him on that contract and neither would a lot of GMs. I saw Suter look pathetic against Crosby's line last year and elbow Downie then get suspended. Guess you didn't see that. - jfkst1
They played the wild 2 times. You're going to judge him on just 2 games only? Just shows you don't know what you're talking about. Everywhere you go you complain about d-men that are good at defense. You obviously are blind to the value of a shut down d-man. It's very annoying that you think you know so much but talk down good players just because you don't understand their value. |

Quick may have a rather ordinary regular season save percentage, but he did have one of the greatest postseasons ever in 2012. |

1 - Price - 4 years over 920save% and just dominates most games. What he did at the Olympics was insane. What he did throughout the year last year was also insane.
2 - Schneider - The guy had a 924 save% on the devils last year. 'Nuff said.
3 - Lundqvist - He's the King for a reason. His career save percentage over a decade is 921. He is good every year. Granted he has had playoff struggles early in his career and no cups, but for the past 5 years he's been dominant in the playoffs as well.
4 - Rask - The guy had a .922 save% last year and people call it a down year. He's had 4 years of essentially .930 save%. That's nuts. We may see how he does on a weaker Boston team, but he is a star.
5 - Rinne - When Rinne is healthy, he is a beast. A few more healthy seasons and concerns about his durability should be forgotten. To be honest, I wouldn't be too concerned about his health. Anybody can get injured. He cam back strong last year. |

Sample size matters. He's a really good goalie, but I don't think he's a top 5 goalie right now.

I'm merely applying the method of analysis you can relate to (eye-test). The data on Suter is that he is an irrefutably declining player. I also believe that matches up with what is observed. Quick has been quite ordinary given the recent data on him too. So I think putting him in list of top goalies is very inaccurate. |

What does a ring have to do with anything...crawford has a few rings, so do a bunch of bottom line grinders.
Quick had one unreal postseason and one strong season and has done nothing to garner any kind of attention as an elite goalie since.
Jim Carrey also had an unreal season... |

I kinda agree with you too. Else Halak is also a top 5 since he had an unreal postseason one time too. |

Declining how? By playing more minutes than any other dman in the NHL?
Who would you consider a top d-man in the NHL today? |

By any meaningful measure he's declining. He should be playing a lot fewer minutes.
Giordano would be my idea of best overall when he was healthy last season. Taking durability into account I'd say Keith. |

He's played for worse teams and has a better career save percentage. Stats wise, it is kinda hard to argue Bobrovsky isn't better these days. There are knocks against him though. He's now 27 and hasn't hit the 60 game mark in a season yet. He's got very little playoff experience ( though part of that is playing for the flyers and jackets ). A bounce back season from either could have them right back in the top 5 in any discussion. |

Damn it JJ, stop being so damn reasonable. I keep wanting to trash your posts for being a Chicago homer, but I just agree with your lists too much. I think you overvalue the Chicago guys just a tiny bit, but otherwise your lists mirror mine. |

Yep, the same person that said Toews is the best center in the league and Weber and Suter are still top dmen in the league. - jfkst1
How do you figure Weber isn't still a top D-man, if not the best? It's Keith in most books, but Weber has a case. |

I realize he probably needs to do it again this year to move into the top 5, but I'd strongly consider Holtby. The guy was a beast last year and into the playoffs. |
