Good moves. It's a good sign that JB admitted his mistake with Vey. I did like Biega and Hutton together though, thought they played the strongest together over any other pairing during the pre-season.

I'm guessing all 3 clear, unless a lottery team wants one of Corrado/Vey.

I'm much more intrigued by Pedan/Subban than Corrado at this point.

Interesting moves.

I hope all 3 clear waivers, but if not that's fine. There will be some intriguing names on the wire over the next 48 hours if we need to add a piece.

Good for Cracknell. He may not be here long, but has earned a longer look.

I expect Virtanen or McCann to go back to Junior after their 9 games, assuming Higgins is back by then, but they both deserve a shot after their pre-season performances.

If the Canucks lose both then so be it. Both were out played by younger players. Corrado had regressed a little since his call up a couple of years ago.

My hope is that they both clear. There are a lot of waiver choices today so it's a good possibility. If they don't good luck to them in the future.

Not if they come out flying. Everyone thought Horvat was only going to get 9 last year and he was able to prove he belonged. Both have 9 games to prove they belong.

Posted at HF:

there are ~250-300 players waived every year.

In 2014, 4 players were claimed.

In 2013, 5 players were claimed.

Almost all were experienced cheap veteran depth guys.

Odds are overwhelming that everyone clears.

Whether they lose Corrado or Vey or not and with the Kassian thing, Benning may not be the idiot people think he is. Maybe given Kassian's rep, Prust and throwing in a pick was the best he could have gotten and it made sense to get rid of him. And as Nucker said, I like that Benning is willing to move on from a player if it doesn't work.

Pretty pumped to see Hutton make the team. I thought that Gaunce had earned a spot as well, ahead of both Virtanen and McCann, but I am sure he will get his call up chance this year.

Good to see that management can make the tough calls.

Mistake? How was it a mistake? You're using hindsight. Benning had no idea when he acquired Vey that the kids would come along and outplay him or that even a UFA AHL'er would come along and outplay him.

Vey got demoted because something better came along...nothing more.

What did you guys think of Clendening? He's looked better than Pouliot and Dumoulin in Pittsburgh so far this offseason and was working out all summer at the facility so he seems very dedicated.

People cannot actually be worried about losing Biega right? The guy is a 27 year old defenseman with 7 NHL games experience. If teams are going to put rookies in the lineup, itll be one they hope can develop, not one in his "prime"

I truly believe they are going to try and get Gaunce in the line up soon and it's guaranteed if JV or McCann get sent down after their 9 games.

It turned out to be a mistake, no? The move at the time was fine imo. My point was that I'm glad he didn't worry about looking bad by waiving him a year after trading a 2nd for him.

Thank god the Markstrom experiment was abandoned last year. Glad he isnt on the radar anymore...wait... here is is in the line up.

If Vey makes it down(and he will probably), who know what happens later. For all we know our line up isnt full of kids in a few weeks. Anything can happen. Even I am getting a little over excited at the idea of all of these guys staying the whole season... it could work out the other way though.

We only see part of the picture, the on ice product. For Kassian, it sounds like his life outside of hockey has made him much less desirable than his on ice potential decreasing his value.

It is like what was mentioned in the blog. There is a perception the team is on the decline and changes are needed. and with that being said, JB is never getting enough in trades as fans over value under performing players or players on the decline.

Mistake, to me, is when you do something wrong, Benning trying to make the roster better with a seemingly talented young guy wasn't wrong.

But yes I'm glad he said "hey, the kids we picked are better, they've proven it, so let's move on."

To do nothing at all is a mistake!!

Markstrom has always dominated the AHL, it was clear that he was going to get another shot somewhere. Corrado has never dominated the AHL. Vey has had some nice seasons but it's starting to look like Toffoli made him look better than he was and he may be a classic tweener. Darren Haydar-like. Both still have upside but waiver eligibility shouldn't determine who makes the team unless it's a close decision but Corrado and Vey got outplayed by a decent margin.

Obviously Benning agrees.

I like Biega, and I am not worried he will be picked up.

I might be a little sad to see Corrado lost on waivers, but I am not sure if anyone could project him any higher than a bottom pairing dman or 7th?

I didn't realize how tight to the cap we were, even with the rooks in the lineup.

Good move, nice to see the roster transition finally begin to unfold.

IMO, there isn't a better time to begin to incorporate youth.
The veterans still posses the ability to be serviceable game-changers that can positively impact the development of our youth in a somewhat, competitive environment.

The burden on the rookies will be small while the room for upside is large.

Can't say i could have envisioned a roster composing the likes of Bo, Sven, Virtanen, McCann and Hutton a few months ago.

Finally some excitement

Using the pick to draft a prospect would have been a mistake?

We have enough prospects, we are making a cup run, look to the tdl for rentals to shore up the lineup.
