Good move, nice to see the roster transition finally begin to unfold.

IMO, there isn't a better time to begin to incorporate youth.
The veterans still posses the ability to be serviceable game-changers that can positively impact the development of our youth in a somewhat, competitive environment.

The burden on the rookies will be small while the room for upside is large.

Can't say i could have envisioned a roster composing the likes of Bo, Sven, Virtanen, McCann and Hutton a few months ago.

Finally some excitement

Yeah, it's nice to have something to look forward to when watching the games.

Using the pick to draft a prospect would have been a mistake?
- Nucker101

Using the pick to draft a kid that may or may not make it is not a bad thing, no, acquiring Vey just increased his odds of getting an NHL player is all.

Edit: did you get my PM on the draft tonight? Taking daughter back to VGH today.

Corrado will learn from this and will have to settle for being in the mix for the 2018 Olympic team.

I'm guessing all of the coaching staff, or at least WD sits down with management when they discuss the final roster. I knew Vey was in trouble when even WD demoted him in the middle of a pre-season game.

Ya of course, just kidding. As you said, even WD surely could see other player were just flat out better than Vey.

Good job Trevor and Jim. Well done.

That's sarcasm, right?

JV shows up for one game against the helpless oilers and earns a roster spot? WTF?? Exposing Corrado so Hutton can have a spot opening day makes less sense. I saw Hutton carry the puck 2 or three times and he looked good doing it. I also watched him panic and serve up soft backhands right at opposing players.

Vey is a solid choice for 14th Forward. You guys forget that 2 forwards and one D have to sit out every game, not everyone gets to play just bc they're on the roster...

Listen, I dont pretend to know more about the game than the professionals paid to run the team but this reeks of desperation to sell tickets and while they preach draft and develop this is a recipe for draft and sink. Clearly we learned NOTHING from the oilers mistakes over the last 5 years.

Exactly. How many 2nd round picks don't even get a sniff at the bigs? And like Sven it also gave the Canucks an early 20's prospect to try and help bridge the gap between the vets and draft picks. Since that gap doesn't look to be as wide as everyone originally thought, Vey lost his spot. And he didn't just lose it because of a numbers game. He was outplayed.

Even if Vey clears, where does he fit on the team? With Hank, Sutter, Horvat, and McCann ahead of him on the depth chart, his best case scenario would have been 4th center. Cracknell is way better suited for that role. Let him go to Utica and help develop and set up the young guys down there.

The difference between this and the Oilers are that all the rookies are heavily insulated by experienced and quality players. JV is being asked to develop his positional play as a 4th line winger, not a 1st line scorer; same as McCann. Hutton is being asked to play 3rd pairing and 2nd PP, not an outrageous assignment. If this were the Oilers our first line would be McCann centering Jensen and Virtanen with Corrado and Hutton on D...

It sounds like you didn't even watch any of the preseason games. All three rookies were put into different situations throughout the preseason and all played their way onto the roster.

You don't think JV, Hutton and JM deserve a roster spot for playing well in the pre-season and that they should be sent to jumior or AHL because of age alone?
