@BradZiemer: New jersey numbers for new Canucks. Hutton is 27, Virtanen 18 and McCann 91. #Canucks

That's sarcasm, right?

JV shows up for one game against the helpless oilers and earns a roster spot? WTF?? Exposing Corrado so Hutton can have a spot opening day makes less sense. I saw Hutton carry the puck 2 or three times and he looked good doing it. I also watched him panic and serve up soft backhands right at opposing players.

Vey is a solid choice for 14th Forward. You guys forget that 2 forwards and one D have to sit out every game, not everyone gets to play just bc they're on the roster...

Listen, I dont pretend to know more about the game than the professionals paid to run the team but this reeks of desperation to sell tickets and while they preach draft and develop this is a recipe for draft and sink. Clearly we learned NOTHING from the oilers mistakes over the last 5 years.

McCann skating with the third line with Hansen in practice.

Glad they're not putting him between Dorsett/Prust since that line would have zero chemistry.

I wonder if getting chewed up by Mohahan, Gaudreu and Bennett in the playoffs helped as well??

I bet it did, showed the entire Canucks organization that vets aren't always better than rookies/young players.

Hutting looking panicky....

He looked as panicky as Tanev when we got a first look....

- boonerbuck

I can tell you exactly when it happened too. On the PP against SJ, he got a feed on the left point from right side and bobbled it. He chased it down and rather than making a NHL calibre play, shuffled a weak backhand towards the net that was easily intercepted and cleared.

Next, against Calgary, fans on a pass and coughs it up behind our net. Rather than taking the body or trying to recover the puck he flops to the ice in what i can only assume was an attempt to take a passing lane away.

But lets keep the rose coloured glasses and stick our heads in the sand while we plan the parade route like toronto has done for the last 50 years

And who outplayed Hutton in your eyes? Every dman on the roster made some bad plays during the pre-season, even Tanev/Edler/Hamhuis. But some made less mistakes than others and some made more good plays than others.

Hutton might not be ready for a full season in the NHL, but he earned his opening night spot.

Is this Belcher or Classic. It's definitely one of the Benning haters new account.

I'm surprised that Benning would risk losing players to waivers but am glad he did.

I think a demotion for Vey is the right wake-up call for him and this could motivate him to further elevate his game.

As for Corrado, the few times I watched him last year with the Comets I was not impressed. Defensively he appeared out of position, he displayed poor judgement in his breakouts, he was easily rattled by the forechecking pressure and was not physical in his own zone. This was on the right side before he was converted to the left. Offensively he did nothing.

Corrado was solid in the 2012 playoffs and I really thought he'd become a Tanev 2.0 but he's regressed somehow.

And I remember the time Edler passed the puck to an opposing forward about 700 times since he's been in Vancouver. Hutton made some mistakes and he'll make many more. He may end up in Utica for a bit too. But he looked good and deserves this shot.

Could you break down Sbisa's preseason too?
