I like the direction we are going here. People have been crying about this team not getting younger and it all being lip service. We are getting younger...
I expect Cassels to get a good look next season. He was down the depth chart with the show that our top picks were putting on but he has a pretty good complete game. I still expect him to be a player as well. Room down the middle is a future challenge though.
I am starting to think Sutter doesnt make it half way through his contract here. - boonerbuck
Exactly!
Give Sutter some time to adjust to a new conference. It's great to see some fresh, new faces in the line up! |

I wonder if he will like playing first line wing or maybe 4th line centre? |

I'm suggesting that he may not be happy with his role down the road... that often makes a NTC vanish.

@HockeyAbbs: refresher on #Canucks lines 22-33-21/47-53-17/14-91-36/9-24-15 D' 23-5/27-8/2-44 extras appear to be Virtanen/Weber with both 30/25 in nets - LeftCoaster
I am a fan of the randomness of the numbers. Particularly 47, 53 and 25 in net. Wish 77 and 60 still existed though... |

@BradZiemer: New jersey numbers for new Canucks. Hutton is 27, Virtanen 18 and McCann 91. #Canucks - LeftCoaster
Read an article today saying the canucks veterans went to management asking for Hutton to be on team.
I don't agree with keeping Cracknall over Vey or corrado but I'm happy McCann is in. Selke within 5 yrs |

I don't see Cracknell lasting the entire season as a regular in the lineup. But good for him for making the roster. |

And who outplayed Hutton in your eyes? Every dman on the roster made some bad plays during the pre-season, even Tanev/Edler/Hamhuis. But some made less mistakes than others and some made more good plays than others.
Hutton might not be ready for a full season in the NHL, but he earned his opening night spot. - Nucker101
It boils down to asset management. If we're trading away 2nd round picks to take a chance on a guy like Vey or Baert then management clearly saw something in them. Both Vey and Corrado are RFA at the end of the year and LV will def have to clear re-entry waivers (not sure about FC).
You can say Vey had a year to prove himself, but this season is a write off and rather than throwing these assets away, lets accumulate as much as we can get out of them and look forward to building a contender in 3-5 years. That might be a tough pill to swallow but it beats another 20 years of mediocrity.
I personally keep biega as the 7th dman. cheaper cap hit, expensive ahl salary. let hutton come back when someone gets hurt.

Yes, been waiting for some [potentially] good Canucks to rock some numbers in the 80's and 90's |

Can come back at anytime, re-entry waivers havent existed for a while. He is just subject to waivers again if they want to send him back. Good wake-up call that will hopefully up the intensity level in his game |

Hutton outplayed Biega and Corrado. Which is why he is on the roster regardless of contract status and cap situation. |
