is that so damn hard???
Should we scratch Wayne Simmonds cause he scores 60% of his goals on the PP and he's one dimensional????

- FLYERSROCK!

I don't think he's that far out of the lineup. It sounds to me like they just want him to correct a few lazy habits he's picked up playing in Edmonton and Arizona. I think if he shows a willingness to compete on the back check he'll find himself on the game day roster sooner than later.

So tell me why Az dumped his ass for Pronger and Grossmann exactly.
- hereticpride

Because they're as stupid as Hakstol is for sitting him?

Why did Boston trade a 3rd for Rinaldo?
Why did Boston trade Lucic for a mid 1st who'll likely bust?
Why did Vancouver trade Lack?

lots of stupid GM's out there that do stupid things.

Wayne Simmonds is a monster off the puck whose been as up and down the lineup as anyone. He gets constant back pressure he's physical and he may not score as much at even strength - your only argument for Gagner - but he makes his line better.

And no read Laughton is a defensive first line. Gagner as spoken before is one dimensional and doesn't want to play defense. His lazy skating and back checking is why he's sitting on the bench for Umberger. Whose willing to play dirty hockey on a defensive first line

nhl network staying consistent, another year of commercials consisting mostly of the flyers bring scored on

- -davies-

They did give up the 7th most goals in the NHL so they probably aren't hard to find.

Skate with purpose. Go into the dirty areas. Back check with energy.

Defensive skill > offensive skill in a bottom 6 role. If I had to chose one I go defense for bottom 6.

L Schenn in, Gudas out for opener.

- BulliesPhan87

I guess still paired with Medvedev? Makes sense, give Gudas more time to potentially knock off the rust.

Wonder if Pittsburgh will tell Phil Kessel to do these things

holy (frank) your entire team cant be tough to play on the puck and have everyone go to the dirty zones and poop like that.

Patrick Kane Phil Kessel Vladdy Tarasenko do just find for themselves.

So we need all 6 players in the bottom 6 including Couts to play defensively

got it. Cant have a single player in bottom 6 not play defense. Gotta have 7/12 FW play defensive minded.
That worked out AWESOME last year!

You're talking about top 6 players who produce 30+ goals a year. Not a bottom 6 player with a career high of 13 Even strength goals

To be fair, the top three picks are in the lottery this year so there's three times the reason to talk about it.

Honestly, what major shake up would have to happen for the Flyers to get in the playoffs? They aren't the '69 Mets out there.

- mayorofangrytown

I'm not expecting them to make the playoffs....hoping yes, expecting no but still I just can't start talking draft on october 7th.

So instead he should do something stupid like turn down the rest of his money and retire? That's the part I don't get. I'm sure they have had conversations about him expanding his list of potential trade destinations, but who would want him?
- funmaster18

Nope. Him giving up the money would be silly, although I think we'd all agree that would be the best case scenario for the team. I just don't equate him taking the money with pride. I think it's pretty clear nobody would want Vinny on this current deal.

In my case I'm excited that we have another deep forward draft. That way no matter where we pick top 10 or top 30 we could grab another quality prospect like konecky so we can stop arguments about Gagner verse umberger and have great cheaper options

Yeah, me either. I don't even start watching draft eligible players until after the new year. I just watch our prospects. No idea where you're picking and unless the kid is a top three pick they don't really start making their moves on the list until World Juniors.

I think most people on here who are into the draft are just a few years in to having access to those games and get a little caught up in it. Nothing wrong with that if it's your thing but yes, too early for me to more than jokingly throw it around.

I'd like to see Gagner in just to see what he can do on the 2nd PP unit and to see what he brings when the games count during the season that could make or break his career. Of course, the puck hasn't dropped on the 1st game yet and the odds are good he'll get in soon...

If Gagner had more than one ES point in five preseason games (mostly against scrub lineups) he might be playing tomorrow.
