You think Jersey's going to be decent? I was thinking they're going to be just shy of brutal. Huh
Mine:
Philadelphia
Buffalo -- though I have to admit, they do have some good pieces that could gel
Toronto

I can't tell in all honesty which team is going to be more brutaller* than the others, which is going to be the least brutal, and which might actually have a decent season.
At a guess, I'd say Carolina, Toronto, and Jersey are all going to be brutal. Buffalo might be a fair bit better than last year and STILL be brutal, and the Flyers might out-brutal all of them, though I'm holding out hope that a disaster of that magnitude will not come to pass.
*with my B.A. in English came a license to invent words as I deem fit. Therefore, brutaller is now a word. |

Well the courturier debate will be over after this year on whether hes a 2c or not. Hes having the 2nd pp catered to him and his linemates strengths. Hes going to see more offensive zone starts with schenn and simmonds on his wings. And he in all circumstances seems to be playing exclusively with guys with offensive skill sets so id expect him to always be paired with a combination of read schenn simmonds gagner.
I think for opening night back in tampa i just feel like they go gudas. But if he gets terrorized by his former team its a short leash and i think l schenn gets in. Im glad he recognizes we only need one of that type of defenseman in the line up at a time. That being said i really hope manning can continue to progress. And im disappointed to see mdz on the third pairing. I get they are trying to balance combinations but after signing his contract ive felt hes reverted back to his old ways. - Tfaehner
The line combos are unknown. |

This whole group should be just shy of brutal. All about 70-85 pts.

Judging by how they played verse us its hard to rank them below us. Granted its pre season.
Arizona edmonton vancouver boston colorado are teams id also throw out there. Rank those 10 that would be interesting. |

Buffalo has Lehner. That's going to be an issue. If I were them I'd have grabbed a goalie on waivers.
My biggest fear in Philly is Steve Mason. If he's injured, maybe only Carolina is worse.
Carolina can tank out with a Staal trade or two. They're already bad with them.
I don't see where Toronto and New Jersey are going to get offense... at all.
There's a real stew of a mess at the bottom of the East.

Who sits in his place? A 4th liner and slide umberger down? - funmaster18
That'd be my guess.
I'm not to worried about Gagner sitting, but if they're losing 2-1 fairly often, they may ignore some of those things Hakstol says Gagner needs to "work in" |

Unless Laughtn doesn't stick & they move Schenn in as C or even Gagner and return Couturier to being just a shut down guy

Preseason ranking isn't the most exact science in the world.
Go into the way back machine and recall the predictions for the birds this year.

On paper there's no question Carolina and Toronto are the worst and NJ is better than Philly. Talent-wise Buffalo is ahead of Philly, but depends on injuries.

I forgot Carolina picked up Eddie Lack, if E. Staal has a decent season before he becomes a UFA...I would have to put Carolina ahead of Flyers too.
The cap situation alone probably makes the Flyers bottom 5 league wide, at least other teams can potentially get better with trades/call ups. Sadly the Flyers have no wiggle room.

I think you're right.
It would be funny if he has a really solid 2C season (40 ESP and 10 PPP) but the Flyers win the lottery and he's back down to 3C next year behind Matthews. |

I feel Laughton would have to really be bad for the Flyers to send him back down. They seem totally committed to him as a center and BSchenn as a wing.
Not sure if you were reading the threads during your absence but there was a lot of discussion when Laughton-BSchenn were put together at the start of camp. Some felt the team were sending Brayden a message by putting him next to a bubble player. Turned out Vinny-Gagner were the forwards most in danger of being left out of the top 12. |

I thought about "what-if the Flyers got Matthews"...I don't know if the 2nd line would be any better, unless they break up Giroux and Voracek again. |

I'm not sure NJ is better than us. Their forward situation is pretty darn bad.
