The rebuild is not complete until Ortio or Gillies is the starter so what is your point? Please continue to check in the Flames thread this year. Loving the grand proclamations around here after 1 game. - FLflames34

Wonder why virtanen didnt play, figured he's played in that arena many times for big games.
regardless, team looked great.

Sutter looked good... But the Sedins tend to do that to people. I do like having him on that line though as he seems like he can finish chances and he can take all the right-handed draws (Hank isn't much good at those) |

His ice coverage is impressive as was expected. Will play in all the areas but at times as winger he was out of position a bit with the Sedins but that shouldn't take long to repair if he stays on the 1st line. Overall after one game he looks good so far. |

They still haven't given credit to McCann with an assist. Wtf?
He clearly passed the puck to Burrows who shot it and deflected in the net. I hope they're not considering that an own goal and giving it to the last guy that touched it. |

The new players are making an impact... I'm totally with Vantel, once the Higgins, Hansens and Burrows of the world's are gone, this is going to be a very hard to play against team. It's too early to say much, but right now, the kids don't look out of place in the regular season. - DariusKnight
Hansen and Burrows?
those guys were all over the ice stirring things up and getting chances. |

Long overdue with this aging roster. Sedins Burr and Hamhuis look good but Bieksa was horrible , I don't like Higgins as everyone knows . They need to inject youth sped and toughness.
Usually a team injects one or two new players every so often. Besides Tanev and Bo this team was stale - VANTEL
Agreed.
Higgins might return something at the deadline from a team looking for a utility player... |

Question for Hockey Poolers . the players that were sent back to the AHL and JR , do you need to do something to make them NA or will Yahoo do that? |

Things I didn't like about the team.
I don't like what Vrbata brings. I think JV would be more involved , faster , harder to play against , more energy and grit. You would see more going to the net power moves.
I also didn't like Prust and Cracknell. Would prefer to see Gaunce play . Give Cracknell a few more games. He needs to bring grit or skill. he cant just fill minutes |

Since watching Vrbata in the PO's last year I think a few opinions have changed on him. I was actually very surprised JV didn't get the start with the rest of the kids...especially in the rink where the Hitmen play and Calgary knows him well.
Cracknell skates well but has alot to learn on positioning. At times he looked bit lost out there ar Center but a big mobile body so (for now) I can see why they went with him over Vey.
Prust I think will have a bit more impact as his conditioning gets a bit better. A tad slow out there but still a good presence to have IMO. He ain't gonna score much but he ain't gonna hurt us much on the 4th line either.
Agree on Gaunce though. would be nice to see the impact he has at this time. |

If the plan is to play JM and JV in alternative games it would be 16- 20 games that they can stick around for and then shuffle off to JR worlds.
