Call it McDavid and tell people that's how tires are supposed to look now.

This is the last I will say about this (well... today anyways).

You either believe science when it states that there is a direct correlation between degenerative brain disease and head trauma, or you don't.

You either truly believe that there is an actual deterrent produced by allowing fighting (IN PROFESSIONAL HOCKEY, NOT YOUR BEER LEAGUE) or you accept that fighting is no longer a deterrent (how often do cheap shot artists even actually fight anymore???).

I agree that fighting used to be a deterrent. Those days ended in the late 90's / early 2000's. Guys make too much money and just don't have to fight anymore.

I guess the only thing I would say to this is, if "guys make too much money and just don't have to fight anymore", why do they keep doing it? Prust and Dorsett are making a combined $5,150,000 and are so far 1-1 in fights per game.

Context. There are guys who will fight, but fighting isn't a deterrent of any sort because if you cheap shot someone you can simply choose not to fight, which most do these days. Fights end up being two tough guys duking it out after some piece of sh*t like Cooke or Torres do something stupid and dangerous. How is that a deterrent?

So many kids and no true "superstar" (all due respect to Little, Wheeler and Byfuglien). They've acquired some great depth too!

No, his childhood friend scored his 1st NHL goal in his 1st game playing against McDavid and it turned out to be the game winner.

Edit: I'm still looking forward to McDavid meeting Messier in the showers, "welcome to Edmonton kid, now you know why we're called the Oilers"

Oh I agree, fighting should be penalized like it is in junior B, automatic game misconduct.

I didn't read the whole thread, there was too much arguing. I just jumped to the end, saw the one post and plunged in.

Staged fights off of the face off, where guys are jawing do nothing to enhance the game. Sometimes during the course of play, you just can't help yourself but to try and beat the crap out of another guy (this is true of beer league hockey too), but I think players should still be ejected for this. Problem is, if they penalize fighting this severely, it encourages players to resort to other means of combat, like slashing etc. I don't know what the answer is, just that something has to change for the good of the game and the players.

Oh FFS let it go! You're not going to get everyone to agree that there should be no fighting. You are the minority. Brain damage, no brain damage guys play this game because they love it. Boxers fight because they love it. Yes it correlates to brain damage. We know it, they know it they are going to do it anyhow. No one denies that. The players are educated and know of the dangers just like smokers. Its gonna f#ckin happen regardless of the consequences. I would bet not one of these lawsuits against the leagues win anything because everyone knows what they got into when they signed up. Concusions happen in every sport do we stop playing them? No.

I hurt my body at work all the time I know I am going to pay for it later in life but that is what you do. Its called being a man. Man up.

Ladd I would think is the closest thing.

He put up 64 points last season, which is pretty good considering Toews put up 66 points.

I agree that fighting isn't a deterrent any longer, but could you imagine playing on a team full of pu**ys?

I actually wrote a paper on this exact topic for my final English paper last semester, and I argued that the NHL should keep fighting in the league. At the end of the day, my argument stood because of one point: the players do not want it to be removed. We could sit here and debate its place in the game. But according to the players, it has a place, and that place is permanent.
