waiting for the Richards blog, but reading what was released it seems like that little turd got the long end of the stick- I can safely say I am not a fan of Richards and only give him the shred of respect for the first cup and even less of a shred for the 2nd cup. I hope he signs somewhere soon so I can watch his career ending concussion

I'd say.

Not only do the kings get the cap recapture penalties for the next 5 years, but on top of that, a cap hit for how much they pay him in settlement...........till 2031

The kings are officially paying him till 2031 and he will be a cap hit every year for the next 15-16 years

It'll likely be in the neighborhood of a $1.25M cap hit for 15 years. I bet he'll get next to nothing for the first 5 years so the kings cap hit will be around $1.5M, followed by 10 years of $1.25M. That would come out to around a $14M settlement, or 2/3 of the remaining value of his contract.

Easy win! Wow, down 4-0...haven't watched any of the game but have to assume it is not good. Does anyone know of a live feed for viewing?

i still dont get why the kings would have to pay cap recapture penalties if richards signs with another team. wasn't the whole point of those to punish teams for back loaded deals that a player would never actually play? if he's playing, then whats the penalty for?

Well I've never liked niemi.... But quick is playing like garbage. Sure he's getting screened on a few of those goals with no help from the D, but my god. Again, it's the beginning of the season. I'm sure, like always, he'll play like his usual self. Get the bad losses out of the way early and get on track..... Lost to PHX, what a joke . I'll give Smith some credit though

Recapture is there to ensure that teams don't front-load a contract to get a favorable cap hit, then either buy out the cheap final years or entice the player to retire before the contract is up due to the low cash salary. The recapture amount is the difference between the earned amount of the contact and the cap hit, divided over the remaining years of the contract.

Even if Richards signs with another team, the Kings still received a favorable benefit from the front loading of Richards recently terminated contract. The amount they paid him exceeded the amount of charged salary cap hit to the Kings, therefore they get hit with recapture penalties. The new contract that he signs would be unrelated to his last contract and any cap benefit the Kings received.

Well Niemi is looking like the Vezina favorite so far this season
I think Quick will at least start putting up average numbers again. But if he doesnt i wonder who would replace him as a starter for team USA. Bishop or Schneider? Maybe Howard, Anderson, or Gibson... Miller? Those are really our only options
