Gloom and doom already. It was not as bad as you are making it out to be. Much closer game than 6-2.
It is the first game of the season.. - Mahewman
listen i'm the first one to defend the Bruins. but if the defense does not improve, a lot, it's going to be a long season. and Tuukka will lose his (frank)ing mind. |

It was only one game but I didn't see a top pairing guy and only one top four on the entire unit last night.
Trotman
Irwin
Morrow
All had rough games. Krug was average but this midget can't be expected to be a #1 defensmen lol.
McQuaid and Miller are nothing more than solid bottom pairing guys if their body parts aren't falling off them every other week.
It's a major point of weakness and teams will continue to attack and forechecking hard knowing they can generate turnovers. I don't care who the goalie is, that isn't an NHL defence, not by a long shot. - Cape Breton Bruins
There is absolutely nothing more to say. this is 100% correct. |

No bruins fan was happy with the outcome. However, to write off Irwin, Morrow and Trotman after 20 minutes a piece in a game is silly. I thought K. Miller looked pretty good, always was a fan of him. If Irwin continues to turn the puck over, then either he needs to be paired with a healthy Seidenberg who will be a safety net for screw ups, or sent down for development. He does provide some offensive upside.
They played very offensive for a lot of the game. If that turnover by Irwin to Ladd didn't happen, I don't think they would have been so rattled.
First game down guys. No big deal. |

every goal, aside from the empty netter, was a turnover or blown coverage. |

That unit will have to make major strides in a short period of time to compete for a playoff spot as we all knew going in points are at a premium for this bubble team. First period was good, and the forwards overall looked fine, some good chances early and the game could have been two or three nothing pretty early. The issue is and will continue to be whether or not they can carve a consistent six man unit out of the current personnel on the roster.
With Chara and Seidenberg eventually returning do I think it's possible? Sure and do I think because these kids had a horrible game that they are write offs? No. But I do however think that they are, at the very minimum a work in progress and should not expect miracles out of them but unfortunately that's kind of what we need. |

and Morrow was bad, as was Trotman. - Fountain-San
Idk about Morrow right now but I think Trotmans solid. He just needs some help. He'll be fine with Chara. Once Chara and Seids are back were looking at imo
Chara Trotman
Seids C/KMiller
Krug McQuaid
Morrow
That group will be solid. Patience... It's gonna be a bumpy ride but I'm not panicking unless they suck after the D gets healed up.

its gonna be a long season, but I can take solace in a couple of things, tickets should be cheaper for the average working man to take his kid to a game, and I have to drive by Kappys liqueurs on the way home from work anyway.
really though, theres gonna be a learning curve, i hope, play the kids, let them learn from their mistakes. |

I'm aiming for the
Chara Krug
Seids McQuaid
Breen whoever prob K.Miller
D line combo myself. Won't be pretty but the attacking forwards better keep their heads up. Will eliminate the cheap shots on Krejci and Bergy |

McQuaid and Seids as a pairing is just awful. They are both shutdown slow defenders |

connelly should be moved to the first line, only to put pasta back with Spooner, those two clicked really well last year, and if Krejci is a good as he's getting paid for, he'll help Connelly look good too. |

But how long will Chara and Seids be back for? They have serious injury/wear & tear the past couple of years. Where is this defensive core going the next 2-3 years? I have zero faith that Chara and Seids coming back are going to solve all their problems on the back end. Up front they don't have the offensive fire power to hang with teams if their defense is this bad.
Tonight could be bad. Habs are notorious for capitalizing on mistakes and the Bruins made a bunch the other night.
On a side note, if the Jets can get some goaltending I think they are going to be very good team out West. Lot of their talent is ready to take a run in the playoffs this year and as I said if they get some goaltending they could be very dangerous. |

Side note. When will Pasta be on the PP unit? Personally I don't like Marchand on the PP. |

I'm straight up not concerned about Chara. He hasn't been out with a nagging groin or back or anything like that, no reason to assume he's fragile. Broken bones are just bad luck.
Seids is another story but frankly I don't have much of an option other than to hope he can be a solid D first #3. How he performs will be HUGE for Boston.
As far as the future... Krug, Trotman, Morrow and CMiller have all shown top 4 upside, Arneson in Providence is projecting as a Hjalmarsson type, Zboril and Carlo have elite/top 2 upside and Lauzon is looking like a phenomenal pick right now. We're good
Also, you're dead on about the peg. Why haven't people been raving about their D like Calgarys? Might be the best in the league. I don't think they have a true #1 C though |

Your right about Chara in many regards. But that's the thing with age, these nagging injuries pop up.
Chara's hip may also be a big concern. Since the Hawks series when he was on the ice for 10 of the final 12 goals. |

I remember them saying that was a hip flexor injury. Idk if you've ever tweaked that yourself but I did in lacrosse in high school. Super minor injury, but it was almost impossible to have any explosion when running. More aggravating than painful and difficult to shake. Shouldn't be a recurring issue |
