Scott Cullen of TSN is just the worst:
"Rick Nash – The Rangers winger has no points, but leads the team with 10 shots on goal, in three games. Maybe give him more than 15:26 of ice time per game, eh coach?"

It goes beyond the media, Rangers fans on FB pages are out with pitchforks because Glass is playing over Fast and Etem at the moment.
Some Rangers fans are just miserable human beings. |

people need to get a grip, and also realize that Tanner Glass led the game with 7 hits the other night
as long as he leads games in hits, he is going to play, like it or not |

Here's the way I see it, when the Rangers are not winning I understand why fans slag on the team. I am not prone to ripping on them when justified. But when they consistently win, regardless of which players are out there, I just don't see the logic in the whining. Isn't that what it's all about, in sports, winning? Who cares who is dressed if the team's level of play is high and they are piling up victories.
Complain when things are going bad, by all means, but when things are going well, and people are still unhappy, I really have no time for it. Too many loser Ranger fans. This is the best four or five year stretch, this team has gone on, in my 24 years of being a fan.
Friggen enough, Glass did not hurt them last game. |

And he is being benched tonight. Point is, Vigneault's decisions are constantly called into question and I think that is hilarious. He is probably the best coach the team's had since Fred Shero in the mid-70's.
Screw Keenan, he was blessed with great player leadership that bailed him out as he almost folded under the pressure against Jersey in 1994.
Vigneault is such a solid NHL head coach and all fans do is cry that he plays Tanner Glass and not praise the literal dozens of great calls he has made since he has been here. |

I follow a guy on twitter. He was so passive aggressive towards Boyle being bench. Needless to say he's a BIG believer in adavanced stats. Than he started retweeting Boyle's #'s. |

I wasn't even a zygote when Shero first took over and was just born the year he took them to the finals against the Habs. My father, and other elder Rangers fans in the family, spoke highly of him though.
Since I have been following this team Vigneault is clearly my favorite coach and, without debate, is the team's best coach during that span. |

He just wasn't around long, I do remember when he got fired early in the 1980-81 season, Rangers fired him like 20 games into that season or so after a bad loss to Philadelphia |

Basically. Idk how his corsi #'s are so good, we he's never responsible defensively. I just don't understand. |

The Rangers have a not so successful history, especially in the modern era, yet here we are, going through a pretty strong run despite a championship, and yet there are a ton of complaints as if they are dwelling in the standings basement.
I truly have come to terms that this thread is just about the only place, on the internets, that I can rationally discuss this team. FB boards are lower wrung with the exception of a few. |

my last straw is it being pointed out that JT Miller's "possession numbers" haven't been good the first 3 games.
I gave these kinds of stats 1% of credibility before
now they are at absolute zero |

It's a data set that effectively measures shots for and shots against when a player is on the ice. I believe that Fenwick is similar, but measures shot attempts. Glen can correct me if I am wrong on this. Not obviously that has some utility, some, but it can't be used solely to assess a player's worth.
Who is the player typically on the ice against?
Does he play against the other teams top line, or third and fourth line, typically?
Does the team for which the player plays consistently protects leads, in which case the style of game changes -- i.e., a team that is constantly protecting one goal leads in the third period, might not put much of an emphasis on winning the shot battle.
I am not discounting the utility of the stat, but I also believe you have to trust your own eyes, and realize when a stat can be skewed by other factors.

so, if a player steals the puck in the offensive zone and scores immediately on one shot
or
the player steals the puck, and the team generates 5 shots on net, possessing the puck for one minute in the offensive zone but doesn't score....
option 2 is the better thing to do for fancy stats, right? |

Being bench tonight isn't enough. He needs to be off this team and Diaz should be up here. |

how? how are you getting Boyle off the team?
he has a no movement clause which prohibits being sent to the minors, a no trade clause as well
if he retired the cap hit stays anyway, they literally can do nothing except healthy scratch Boyle and pray he demands a trade |

I don't have an issue with that. Boyle's definitely seen his better days. |
