I'd do that. You're getting a nice vet presence who will be off the cap sooner rather than later. He's pretty gassed but let's be honest, he would be a pretty great bridge over the next few years. Think Jason Smith. It would be huge for Morin too.
The Bs might want MDZ over Read. Id still do it. - hereticpride
I would do MDZ or even Simmonds as well in a heartbeat to lose MacDonald. Only way I wouldn't do the deal is if Provorov, Sanheim, Morin, Konecny or a 1st round pick is involved. Laughton would be tough due to salary cap, unless Boston ate salary which i dont think they have to eat. |

Okay, let's continue to miss the point, shall we?
We as fans can wash our hands of Vinny but I don't think the new Coach can come in, claim he's given everyone a fresh start but not actually do it. Sam Gagner and Radko Gudas both had bad preseason games but managed to bounce back last night. I'm not saying Vinny will come in and manage to hang on to a full time job. I'm saying, if the Coach is going to claim to be fair, than be fair. Let Vinny get into a game after a blow out and if he fails, Vinny has no excuse to hide behind and the new Coach proves his point. - SuperSchennBros
The fresh start does not last forever. That was given in training camp. Lecavalier showed no signs of getting his game back in pre season or in camp. Man, I hope I'm wrong about this, but Lecavalier's NHL career is basically over.

I wouldn't do Simmonds without more coming back from the B's. Which they probably wouldn't do.
But yeah, moving AMac for an aging Chara would be pretty akin to the Hartnell for Umberger deal. That deal made sense to me at the time and this would too, probably even more so. |

I realize the Hartnell deal was a bit of a cap move, but I kinda believe he traded Hartnell also as a way of throwing Berube a bone. - johndewar
That was absolutely a move favouring the Coach. |

You might be right but I don't believe one player in one game makes or breaks our season. The responses and sense I receive from the majorty actually buys into Vinny being the ultimate colapes of the team in one game. I think it's asinine to think this way. This is a franchise who held one spot for a player in the line up for strictly fighting reasons but on most nights stayed good. Riley Cote was one some of these rosters. Cote was easily the roster hockey player I've ever seen in every fashion of the words. Cote didn't hold the team back from anything. |

Dude, you've been nothing less than a gentleman here. We're good. Your not posting a condescending pictures. I just thibk it's crazy to believe one player can bring down one team in one game, every shift. - SuperSchennBros
If the Flyers, as most teams do, want to play a structured puck pressure game, it is imperative that each player read and react properly, and are in the correct position. If there is one consistent breakdown that gives a team an area and a weakness to attack. This can happen on breakouts, in the neutral zone, and certainly a player who doesn't have the wheels, can hurt the ability to get a forecheck going, and teams will take advantage of that. It's unfortunate, but he wasn't a great skater to start with, and his core is shot. He just can't skate well enough, to even take advantage of his offensive ability anymore, other that maybe shooting a one timer on the PP. Hakstol sees him in practice everyday, and he knows this. |

The game has evolved and changed. Riley Cote even though he was not good offensively, was a capable checker and could get in on the forecheck. He was also playing around 4 minutes a game, so other players got increased icetime.

Looks like the Chara rumors are starting from Ek. Seems like most of the hockey minds on this site believe Chara has zero value, so as a Flyer fan would you accept this....
Chara for MacDonald and Read
- Cuts 2 years off of MacDonald contract
- Help growth with younger defensemen, especially Morin
- Worst case scenario, would upgrade top 6
- Makes backend tougher
- Increases the chance of younger defensemen to make team next year with expiring contract of Schenn and trading MacDonald
Thoughts? Would Boston want even more? - Glak18
I would do this. Boston shouldn't want more but probably would

Would you do AMac and LSchenn? Or do you bank on someone coughing up a 2nd rounder on LSchenn at the deadline?
Personally I'd do it. Just knowing that youre going to have big money off the books two years sooner. |

Berube HHated hartnell that's a big fact. I think it was completely a coach who said I need him gone to control the locker room. |

I think if the Flyers don't run into a bunch of injuries, Luke Schenn could get them a solid asset at the trade deadline.
It's very likely that Luke Schenn is moved at some point, and depending on how the Flyers season goes, so will Mark Streit at some point. I'm not worried about the cap moving forward. |

I thought Cote was terrible in every area of the game including his job, which was fighting. I don't remember him being a good forchecker because his skating sucked. |

For an enforcer, Cote wasn't terrible. I wouldn't label him good, but he was reliable when he was out there, and he did his job as an enforcer when called upon.

3 to 5 minutes nightly doesn't show much confidence in a player. |

Cap hits of roughly 7,7 and 4 over the next three years for a 38 yr old who has already lost a step. That would be tough for any contender to pull the trigger on.
I offer two serviceable D men in AMac and MDZ or LSchenn. If someone comes up with a better offer I let them shoot themselves in the foot. |

For those with access to the free week of NHL Center Ice, Pittsburgh's home opener vs. Montreal is on right now.
Apparently, Crosby hasnt even registered a shot on goal in the 1st two games. Its going to feel weird pulling for Montreal, but I think I can do it without hurting myself. |

There is so much doom and gloom around Vinny. So many reasons to keep him from playing but he's one player. You argue the point but it's hard for me to say Riley Cote was good at anything and not only did he play, he was dressed often. |

While.some.would disagree, MDZ has been the best defenseman on this team since he came.back.from.the scratching -- maybe it's tallest midget theory, but the ice time does not lie, to me |

They'll want prospects. I doubt they even sniff near Read and MacDonald unfortunately. |

Based completely on fan poling based on fans' perception of their own favorite team. How would a Philadelphia team ever fall high on those criteria with people like Lindbergh31 among potential voters? |
