That makes him 1 gold medal ahead of Mike Richards in the awards department. Just because you're part of winning teams (see: Randy Gregg) doesn't make you a HOFer. But he's definitely a top-10 (if not top-5) defenseman right now. - jmatchett383
When you look like the best defensemen on both of the those gold medal teams which were stacked with HOF level defensemen, I would say it goes a long way in making your case.
He's only 25 so he has a long time before he gets there but I think he will be in. |

3 games is 3 games. Just checking out some other teams' stats, and some great possession players are doing meh. It's small sample size, and generally meaningless. Even 40 games can be too small a sample. But sometimes there's some warning signs that stick.
Manning has 70+% O zone starts. Second worst possession player relative to team. Schultz has been poor, but so has his usage. Putting Manning with MDZ perhaps not a great pairing, given his own back and forth play style. 4th line getting pummeled, and their usage has been tough. Maybe too tough. Luke has been their best possession d man yet he sits. He's always been a good possession d man so I think jury is out on him. - Mononoke
The CF% is less of an issue for me in such a small sample than the fact Hakstol is giving him 70% OZ starts. Even if that dropped to 60% over time that would be a huge number for a supposed top 6 dman. If Manning is going to be the most sheltered player on the Flyers he should not be an everyday player. I hope I'm wrong, but I'm worried the Manning experiment might be a new coach trying to show how clever he is. |

Eh, we'll see how the numbers shake out in a few weeks. That 2nd-game was nothing but statistical noise. |

Exactly. Let this thing play out for a while. Sample size is way too small at this point |

Misgivings about Manning?
I can see some potential in his play... hopefully he turns into something. |

do you think we could get a 3rd round pick, for benjichronic? i don't care if we crush his widdle feewings.. we could use another 3rd. - Doc_Sarcasm
Yes, but I think we have to throw in a 5th rounder as a sweetener to prevent the "your mom" jokes, though |

In my opinion, keeping Manning was more.of a GM decision. They want to see how he does before exposing him to waivers.

I thought we were talking about Doughty, not Weber or Keith.
Also, I did say I don't think he's HOF level "yet." If he throws together a few more Norris caliber seasons, then it's a different story. |

Gimme a break doc.... benjichronic is much more valuable than JUST a 3rd... he at least gets them a 4th or 5th too.

Kings last cup run was what has shown me he has a legit shot..he has to finish his career the way he started it but he set a record for most minutes logged in the playoffs ever he was on the ice in every single situation and late game and last ditch effort. I think people forget as good as Keith was this playoffs doughty was just as good that year. |

And as good as Doughty was that year, Hedman was this past year. But I don't think anyone's saying he's a HOFer right now.
Again, I never said he won't make the HOF. I just said he's not a surefire HOFer "yet." So a legit shot, of course. But he needs another 5-6 strong years until he can make a solid case. |

Mason apparently taking morning skate with team tomorrow. Does he play? Back up ? No idea. But back with the team is a good sign. |

Any idea what this was about? Or if it had any effect on that "game" in Florida? |

Guy's been the best dman in the game for the past 3-4 seasons, IMO. |

Doughty is one of the best defensemen in the game and, outside of Giroux and Voracek, I'd trade any Flyers player + any Flyers prospect to get him. If he can put together another 5-6 Norris-caliber seasons, he's pretty much a lock. |

if this was addressed somewhere in the 9 pages I apologize as I haven't gotten caught up yet but is there an allowance to go over the cap when it comes to goalie emergencies? Pretty sure the Flyers didnt have enough cap space to call up a player making 750K. |

Yes it probably did.
And no nobody knows. Anyone hextall would actually tell is sworn to secrecy. And I doubt anyone would want on hextall bad side by talking to the media about it. |

Labarbera is only making $600K according to General Fanager, which leaves them with JUST ENOUGH to do it. |
