Maybe in 2017 if there's no extension in place.

Yeah, if I'm Chevy, I'm insisting on Provorov, Konecny, Simmonds and the 2016 1st. Like I said, he has no reason to want to move Trouba.

Face it, this deal ain't happening.

- BiggE

There is absolutely no way that Trouba is worth the equivalent of four #1 picks. No way. Start with the Dougie Hamilton trade. Now upgrade it for the "Sweeney is an idiot" factor, and you probably get the equivalent of two #1's and a mid-tier propspect or pick.

Now you have to look at what Winnipeg actually needs, and whether we have something that helps them today without taking a step back. Boston was in a rebuild mode. Winnipeg is not.

I love dreaming and proposing potential trades as much as the next guy, but this just does not make sense.

Would have to be a great return but it's not out of the realm of possibilities.

It would have to be a blockbuster. Neuvirth is red hot now, but I'm not sure they view him as a true #1 goalie, and none of the goalie prospects are remotely close to the NHL level.

No...and if you're insinuating that the Jets need a goalie, you should google Connor Hellebuyck

I agree, it doesn't make sense, nor would I do it. But, since I can't see any reason for Winnipeg to be moving Trouba, you'd have to blow them away to get him. Also, you have to remember that Winnipeg has a loyal and rabid fanbase and it's not like their management team is under a "win the cup or else" type of pressure. Odds are, if the Jets make a deal, it's going to be moving a draft pick or a prospect for someone to help them win now. I don't see them making a blockbuster type of deal.

The Jets will most likely have to do something, or risk losing Buff/Ladd to free agency. They have to re-up Hutchinson, Trouba, Scheifle, Buff, Ladd, and Lowry. Dealing Myers or Enstrom (or a pending UFA) makes the most sense. Dealing Trouba makes none

If you want to dream about getting a franchise defenseman now, Nashville might make more sense because they need some help up front. You may be able to pry Jones away if you start with Simmonds or Schenn and add to it. They are also loaded in prospects on the left side. You include include Luke Schenn to hold them over for this year.

To Nashville - Simmonds, Luke Schenn, Sanheim, protected #1 next year
To Philly - Seth Jones, Jimmy Vesey

I think they could get more skill up front from another team though.

Not likely in season. He would need a contingency plan like a separate trade or FA signing.

Hamilton was also a RFA who basically told Boston he wasn't going to sign with them. Trouba is a player that Winnipeg doesn't have to move, the Hamilton trade was just the perfect storm. Also, saying "4 #1 picks" (I'm assuming you meant "4 1st rounders") is misleading. Would you trade VLC, Umberger, Sam Gagner, and Luke Schenn for him? Because they were all 1st rounders, and one is a former #1 overall pick.

They'd have to start with seeing what Buff would want to re-up. If he's out of their range, they move him at the deadline.

I think they will trade Buff at the deadline. It's a lot easier for contenders to take on a contract with six weeks left. Even a team like Chicago who are totally capped out right now might be able to swing it in late February.

I'd drive each and every one of them to the airport and spring for their 1st class tickets.

If you took out the first rounder and Vesey, I'd do that.

I would just hate the idea of trading the first rounder this year unless the Flyers were in the playoff race and it was pretty well known they wouldn't be picking high.

If only they'd had picked up Thomas Hickey off of waivers, they could have made it 5 first rounders to REALLY blow them away.

The guys you are mentioning are not players past their prime or marginal busts. You're talking about very highly rated prospects who are still trending up and a top-tier RW.

For comparison I'd say that package would be better than any of the packages teams received trading Pronger. There is no way Hextall overpays like that. It doesn't get them any closer to the playoffs today.

Hmm, can we talk Daigle and Falloon into coming out of retirement? 6 first rounders and they'd have to make the deal.

I think Vesey would be the reason to make the trade. Nashville is strong in prospects on the left side. The Flyers...uh, not so much. Vesey will be ready to step in next year, whereas the first rounder will not.

This is what I'd offer:
2016 1st (top 3 protected), if we pick top 3, they get our next non top 3 1st
Sanheim
Simmonds
Aube-Kubel

If that's not enough, I'd upgrade Aube-Kubel to Konecny

Thats absurd IMO.

It's like this. How often do you get a 21 year old 6'3 210 lb right handed defenseman who is both agile and physical? It'd cost a lot but it would certainly be worth iit if we could move players who are not core members.
- Tfaehner

I agree. It's also going to create more holes than it closes. We have no one right now who can step into the middle six. We might down the line, but not now.

I agree. When I posted it was in response to: What would it take to get him? Personally, I wouldn't make that deal. The most I would offer is: Simmonds, Sanheim, and our 1st in 2016 (top 3 protected). He is a legit, 21 year old, RH top pair Dman with size, speed and skill. You have no chance of getting a guy like that in a trade for less.

Pronger was also 34. As great as he was, the Flyers probably were banking of 3-4, MAYBE 5, good years from him barring injury. Trouba is only 21, and will only get better. But let's break down this pipe dream:

Simmonds - 27 years old. 2nd/3rd line "power forward" winger.
Sanheim - 19 years old. Mid first-round pick. Great offensive skills, criticized for lack of defensive skill.
Konecny - 18 years old. Late first round pick, could have possibly slipped to 2nd round, especially if drafted in 2014.
2016 (top-3 protected) - likely at least top-6 forward/top-4 defenseman

Chances are, one of Sanheim/Konecny/2016 1st never pan out to be anything more than a bottom-6 forward/bottom-3 defender. So you're trading a 27-year-old 2nd/3rd line winger, a defenseman with issues playing defense, a fairly big unknown in Konecny, and likely a top-10 pick. When you look at it that way, it's a bit different than "4 1st rounders."
