It's not a sustainable way to protect leads but when you play Chicago, you know there will be wave after wave of attacks when they trail by two goals in the third period. Very hard for even an elite defense team -- and the Flyers are far from that yet -- to hold them at bay all night. That said, still too many bad penalties.
Neuvirth has been outstanding the last two games. His lateral movement and glove are tremendous. But he has trouble handling the puck and is a smaller goalie by today's standards (smaller than his listed 6-foot by at least an inch and a half) so there is room upstairs when he butterflies. Both Florida and Chicago had some good looks at the net with a decent amount of room but missed the target and shot high and wide --- that's what happens when a goalie is going really well, though. - bmeltzer
or got hit square in the face...by kane. i don't care how big a goalie is, they all play on their knees in tight, they all lean off the post, and have room to get beat in the corners. but yeah, neuvirth had things go his way last night. |

Thank you Bo for your comment. I agree he shouldn't be playing (though I think he should be charged with a crime by now as well and the lack of charging him puts the NHL in an awkward place) and my comment was more exploratory then anything. I was also wondering if it was a Philly only thing and the fact that it isn't is great. I guess I needed the reason for the chant to be explained. Was it just to distract him and is team or because the fans think he shouldn't be playing and are united in the message that "no means no"? The first is shallow and lends little to the situation, the later is brilliant and I support it fully. I was afraid the Philly fans were doing the first and am happy to hear otherwise. Thank you and others for the comments and chance for me to think it out more. Cheers. - coffee junkie
It's unlikely that most fans endorse rape and most would like to see justice serve if a guy was charged with and convicted of rape. That being said, the chant last night was just to get him off his game. |

Do we keep Neuvy in goal if he keeps playing outstanding hockey when Mase returns ? - Chris48
Depends on when Mason comes back. Neuvirth has earned the next start regardess, but the Flyers want and need to get Mason -- who is still their clear-cut number one goalie despite Neuvirth's great week and Mason's Flyers career-worst outing last Saturday -- back as soon as possible.
Mason had an excellent preseason and was strong in the opener against Tampa. His body of consistently good work as a Flyer stretches two-plus seasons at this point. One bad start, no matter how horrific, doesn't change that.
Neuvirth has shown why the Flyers signed him. No doubt he is an upgrade over latter-day Ray Emery. He's capable of running with the ball for awhile when the Flyers need him to. |

Wish it were as thought out as the latter, but yeah...
Billy Tibbetts got doused with that one in an AHL game I went to once -- the guy who started the chant was a couple of rows in front of me -- he had a stupid smirk on his face the entire time -- I find it hard to believe that he was really thinking about justice at that moment. - Tomahawk
Billy Tibbets was also convicted of several violent crimes, had spent over a year's worth of time in prison and was a registered sex offender. That's why he was booed at home. If you want to chant at Kane for being up a cabbie, that's fine, because he actually did it. |

Probably. I doubt those people were handing out rape hotline cards after the game.
That said, I'm not going to clutch any pearls over it. Even if one person hears that chant (whether the basis of it is cynical or otherwise) and thinks about what it means, I say it's worth it. (frank) Patrick Kane and his dainty feelings. |

Fair enough. I've made my stance on it known, and don't want to drag it out any further.
I thought PEB had a fantastic game last night, at least for what I want out of him. He was getting in on the forecheck, had a few nice hits, and was generally making good plays. I don't expect him to pass double-digit goals, and I thought he was playing very effectively in all 3 zones last night. |

Neuvirth; trend or mirage? Darcy Kuemper started last season with 2 straight shutouts.... Less than halfway through the season he was benched and the Wild were forced to make a trade for Dubnyk because he pretty much sucked after that.

Neuvirth has a bit longer track record than Kuemper...
All goalies get hot and cold. There is no controversy. We just need to be glad that he was hot at a time the flyers needed him most |

neuvirth is a good goalie. the shutouts are obviously mirage though, seeing as he hadn't had one in about 3 years. it's not even about that. he's just played great in the last 2 and should go again. that's why he's here. |

The CBJ defense have started out terribly. Not too surprising when Connauton and Prout are in your top 6, and Jack Johnson is your #1.

Ray Emery was pretty game, but it was obvious he was shot. It's nice to have a viable backup like Neuvirth. |

I hope he plays well enough to get reconsidered as a starter in this league -- seems like he was always playing well but a real victim of circumstance.
Sure would help fetch the Flyers something nice for him over the summer - Tomahawk
He's streaky. He can cycle through average to stellar. You need 2 good goalies y to compete these days I don't give him away with his stellar contract and Mason injury last year now personal matters this year. |

it's a shame his injury robbed him of his career, and it's a testament to emery that he was even able to come back for one season, let alone 4, albeit as a backup getting bounced around. there's no doubt that neuvirth is a better, longer-term option. i'm happy we have him. |
