Nickelback is like the KISS of Canada. - we_are_all_canucks
Kind of...well...not exactly.
I see what you are referring to, but it's not quite the same. KISS has shown the ability to adapt over the decades...to a point. Where Nickelback has not. Maybe it's because music isn't changing as rapidly as the 70's transition to the 80's but Nickelback doesn't transcend...or have shown no signs of it.
Sure KISS started out with very similer first three records or so but totally progressed with Destroyer.(which showed a good level of talent for the band) Don't care what anyone says. Detroit Rock City will go down as one of the greatest rock songs of all time. Plus the progression of the rest of the album over what was previously released...Beth, Shout it out Loud, king of the Night time World...the album is great all the way through and had showed KISS' ability to adapt to the heavier rock of the mid 70's. Then when disco took over in the late 70's...KISS adapted again with the release of Dynasty and Unmasked which produced good tunes for the time and a generation maker in 'I was Made for Loving You'. The turn of the 80's saw KISS adapt again by removing the makeup and a musical transitional change to much heavier rock a la' Lick It Up and Animalize. Plus at that time the talent level in the band was rising due to the departure of Peter Criss and (ahem) Ace Frehley. I love Ace but he was having some SERIOUS issues at the turn of that decade.
After the Metallica era KISS adapts again with the release of 'Revenge' a super heavy record for them at the time which put them back on the map at the start of the early 90s. After some more stale releases in the 90's they rebound yet again with the reunion tour and Psycho Circus which produced just an excellent self titled track. They jumped into the Symphony generation with the Live in Australia which was exceptional. And they are still going today with great releases like Sonic Boom and Monster which wasn't as good as Sonic Boom but close.
Point being decade after decade KISS (regardless what people think of their talent level), have shown the ability to adapt within every decade. I highly doubt Nickelback will be after to say the same after history has taken it's course.

I guess what I was getting at was that KISS was a very basic kind of rock, mostly limited to their own musicianship. Although Geddy Lee from Rush had very nice things to say about what they learned as an opening act for KISS about playing live and putting everything they had into show. Being a musician, I couldn't stand them but understood why they were popular back then. But it wasn't too long before the limit of their abilities came through and they became more of a sideshow joke.
Nickelback doesn't sound like KISS, and they actually seem like decent musicians. The problem with them is every song sounds the same, slickly produced and instantly recognizable. That makes them popular at first and then quickly despised as it becomes too formulaic. Very much like the current country rock formula seen here.
Very true. WD was outcoached a bit but it wasn't by a wide margin. Gotta have the personnel to make it happen. - LordHumungous
WD got absolutelY schooled.
Funny how we clearly beat them in every way 1st 2 games but some feel we didnt have the right guys. We had way more talent then calgary did. That was obvious. then hartley did his tweaks like good coaches do n it turns it around. WD had no answer for it. Period.
Go look at footage if u dont think so. Look at where flames entered zone in games 3/4. Where turn overs happened etc. They knew HOW TO BEAT US. Thats the coaches job to figure that out and come up w a plan to execute.
Luckily it seems get badly schooled last year taught him a thing or 2. Lets hope.
That AND the fact that nickelback has such a reputation to be the biggest bunch of bumholes in the industry. Krueger is a supreme loser.....ive been w him at the roxy and he was a supreme classless clown. Even his own bodyguard told me he wanted to see him get his ass kicked.
