You'll never convince most people on this site because Weber has developed a whipping boy status, but on the whole his play all season has been very solid and reliable.
- Der Kaiser

Really? I must be missing something. he was horrendous in game 1, took a bad penalty in the late part of the 3rd period in another game. Looked bad on Tampa's winning goal in the last game.

There is nothing solid about his play

Again another poorly thrown ball he had to make an adjustment for that reinjured his already screwed up leg. As soon as I saw him plant to come back to the ball I knew he hurt himself.

Manuel sucks end of story.

- Stripes77

He does suck, but throwing a 30 yard pass on the run isn't exactly routine.

It also wasn't the same leg

I didn't get to watch much of the Tampa game, but with the exception of the 1st game, I honestly haven't noticed Weber at all. Which for him, is a good thing.

Were halfway through the Watkins experiment and so far it's been a waste

Classic whipping boy.

He was the only guy in position on the PK when the rebound given up by Johnson fell to the stick of one of two Lightening players, and every other Sabre has overplayed to the other side. Weber had one of the two, the puck fell on the stick of the other.

With Johnson out of position and a wide open net, Weber goes for the block, but the puck goes in.

And Weber is the one who "looked bad?" What about the four other guys who were out of position. What about the guy who "gave up the bad penalty late in the third?"

Here is the issue with Weber, he has his moments where he shows the ability to clear the net, or the zone, or disrupt a zone entry. However too many times, he's way out of position, in the penalty box, or turning the puck over. When you have 0 offensive upside, and are not a key special teams player, it's tough to be a productive player in general

Wasn't that weber's guy though? Like he lost him going around an then by the time he recovered there was enough time and space for the lightning player to get a good shot off (5 hole on weber).

The PK needs some serious work overall. Either that or guys need to learn how to stay out of the damn box altogether.

Any Bogosian news? I really hope DB does not send Pysyk or McCabe down when Bogo is back, but do we really expect to see Weber in the press box?

He wasn't in position, none of them were. And like I said, if you have 0 offensive upside, you need to make some plays in the defensive zone.

Just not f*cking up every time you are out there isn't good enough anymore for this team

dont take dumb penalties with your backup goalie in net. so thats til christmas. or groundhog day. who knows. the important thing for me is that the offense starts scoring more. one goal in three of the first five isnt gonna do it.

Not really. Weber has been Weber-like all year. He is constantly getting beat and losing him man. Just because it doesn't end up in the back of the net all the time doesn't mean he has been better. Also like broads said unlike a guy like Franson who is equally as terrible in his own zone as Weber, he has offensive upside.

You can't have a defensemen that provides zero offensive ability and is a liability in their own zone. Give me something of usefulness and I would lay off him. The only thing he does well is take a punch to the face.

This would apply if we were casually ignoring all the good he brings to the team. I'm not ignoring it, he just hasn't done anything worth bragging about.
