NO! Only Montreal requires good goaltending to win.
- DoubleDown

well the habs have traditionally relied on solid goaltending to get things done, Huet and Theo come to mind.

poopbag, mediocre team with the best goalie in the league.
Pretenders.

Mdeiocre team... So you think the Leafs would have a 110 pts season if they had Price in the nets?

They are 6-0 to start the season. 20 goals for, 7 goals against. They've outshot most of their opponents so far (see game against Red Wings). All that without an efficient powerplay. With those 6 wins already acquired, they only have to play a bit better that .500 hockey to make the playoffs, and we know for sure that they'll do better than that.

They're looking great right now. However, to go deep in the playoffs they'll need Galchenyuk to make some big strides for their center depth to be good enough.

Unless price steals the show, which is also quite possible.

Ottawa lost their number 1 and made the playoffs
Rinne got injured for a while and Nashville was still a top seed
Lundquist was injured and Talbot stepped in seamlessly
Mrazek stepped in for Howard and they didn't miss a beat

This is just last year...

We see it happen constantly and teams continue to do well. Quick was out a couple years ago and Jones posted awesome numbers. Rask filled in for Thomas for nearly an entire season. The list goes on.

Point is that Price being injured will hurt these teams worse than any of these other scenarios because Montreal's backup is not as strong, and their team isn't as skilled.

Go "skates first" into Price a couple of times, "by accident", and see what happens.

They rode the Hamburglar's hot streak and squeaked in. It's not impossible to do, but it surely hinder your chances.

the ole " you cheer for a bad team so u must be wrong"

I hadn't heard it in awhile and kinda assumed the masses had wised up to how idiotic this retort was.

1. were u under the impression im peter chiarell or craig mactavish just lurking on hockeybuzz??sorry bro. im not.
I didnt construct the oilers. I have no say in the building of the team I happen to cheer for.

2. by your estimation- looking at your contention from the other side-
if you cheer for a good team then u automatically are the most knowledgeable fans in hockey?
so if hawks or tampa fans or the kings fans over the last few years say something, you were always deferential to their opinion cause they obviously must know the most right?? by acquiring hedman/stamkos etc their fans were given that hockey IQ through osmosis?

They are going to struggle, like any other team that loses its #1 goalie
- stinger67

Detroit wouldn't.

And have Jeff Petry for a full season. And DSP is WAY better than last year. And Mitchell instead of Malothra. No Bourque, Sekac, Weaver, Moen, Parenteau to start the season. And Fleischmann is actually pretty good on the third line.

So yeah, they are contenders.

Gallagher, Galchenyuk are getting older and improving. We'll see, it's hard to tell right now, I'm trying not to get my hopes up but they are doing well. It's a long season, a lot of stuff is going to happen. They need to stay healthy.

Montreals backup is not as strong but if price goes down I'm sure they will acquire a capable goaltender with experience

they had petry in the playoffs last year and weren't true contenders then, so I don't see how a full regular season of him changes anything in the playoffs. its not like hes 23 and developing.

the rest of those additions/subtractions are pretty relative. add mediocre player in-subtract mediocre player out

if galchenyuk take a big step forward this year, I think that could be huge for you. but that remains to be seen

This is the key issue. Plekanec is good but not a number 1. Their depth here their weakness, IMO.
