I'll do the work for you.
Last season PEB and VDV had the lowest GA/60 shorthanded on the team. It was almost half of what Coots/Read had. Stats are actually in favor of VDV helping PEB.... zzzzz - Mononoke

Last season PEB and VDV had the lowest GA/60 shorthanded on the team. It was almost half of what Coots/Read had. Stats are actually in favor of VDV helping PEB. VDV had a sizably lower GA/60 then PEB; also, a significantly lower scoring chances against/60 and high-scoring chances/60. Stats would include 3v5 too, of which I believe PEB sees the ice and not VDV. But that's a small amount of the time -- should adjust things slightly, but still shows how good the pairing and VDV was.
This year, Read is #3 in PK time. Coots #4. They're the de facto second unit now 4v5. So, Read is in fact playing a lot still, just to clear that up. He's also been very good so far, maybe the best PKer. Zero high scoring chances against when on ice, 3 for. PEB and VDV have been the worse pair, but it's super early yet. - Mononoke
When looking at the raw numbers of high scoring chances against, a fair comparison needs to be made. So I'll do that work for you, and note that Bellemare and Vandevelde have played significantly more minutes shorthanded than Read and Couturier has. That is a key part of looking at the numbers, and is incomplete analysis without including that. Your ice time rank is also incorrect. Read is 4th, and Couturier is 6th in icetime per game on the PK among forwards. Not to mention quality of competition competition factor, first unit versus 2nd unit.
Bellemare 15:13
Vandevelde 13:35
Read 8:37
Couturier 7:20 |

I take it you never looked at any numbers....so, thank you for that. I just pointed high scoring chances out as a fun fact about Read. That Read and Couturier have combined for 1 HSC against, while getting 3 for. Chill, Vader.
Now as for why they have been the better pair in this limited action, Read and Coots have been absolutely stellar in shot suppression and chance suppression PER 60 MINUTES. Factors out TOI that way. I'd like to see VDV and Bellemare a little less porous. But thank you for ignoring me agreeing with you about how they performed as the best pair last year. |

Matt Read is a fine PKer. I just don't know what you have against Vandevelde? He's done a good job for the Flyers as a 4th liner and PKer. I think he's better defensively, better on the PK, and more disciplined than White. I like White also, but I like Vandevelde better. - MJL
I've already listed why I like White better in my original statement. I think Vandevelde is a borderline NHL player at best. |

Morin, Hagg and Konecny, tough one. Among the D, I think Trouba is clearly the best of the group, but Konecny has potential to be an impact player. |

You're making an incorrect assumption that I never look at numbers, I just added some numbers that were left out, that need to be there. I would think someone who looks at numbers would be aware of that. I was just simply returning the favor, and doing some work for you. Certainly when comparing the number of high scoring chances against of players, amount of time spent in that situation is important, to make an accurate comparison. It's also incorrect in stating that I ignored you agreeing with me that they were the best pair last year. |

I like White also for a few reasons, he's decent on faceoffs, and he provides a physical edge. I think his offensive ability is overrated, he just had a little bit of hot streak last year, as did Vandevelde. I don't expect either player to match those totals this year. Vandevelde is a solid 4th line PK player.

Wouldn't say trouba is the best of the group just yet, but I'd say he's getting there and easily will be in the next few seasons.
