Surprised to see Manning sticking in the lineup over the scratched guys. How is he looking out there? He sure payed his dues in the AHL.... - HardPuck
He's looked like a serviceable 6/7 defenseman. Aside from the Florida blowout, he hasn't looked either very good nor very bad. Plays a fairly simple, no-frills game. Not a player you want in the top-4, but can give you fairly solid minutes on the bottom pair. |

And yet that is enough for Bill to have written an (excellent) article about it.
They didn't look that good in the last couple of preseason games either. I was just making an observation. - TheGreat28
There are some early season observations to make, but no conclusions to be drawn yet. |

Even better. I actually really got turned on to Bloody Mary's lately. I actually get a ton of energy after drinking them.
If you really like them, I found this small company that makes a really good mix called George's Chesapeake. Try it some time.

Naturally. We need Feanor to provide some advanced stats on the matter!
Really, Raffl should be able to handle the same role as B Schenn on the PP so it's probably just an anomaly. But it will be interesting to see if Hak changes it up if they continue to struggle. |

Ray Emery style? - jmatchett383
Speaking of, I took in a Bakersfield Condors vs Ontario Reign game(AHL Edmonton vs LA) and noticed this guy in bright orange pads playing for Ontartio...yeap none other Ray Emery backing up Peter Budaj still rocking his Flyers gear. |

He didn't draw a conclusion, he offered an observation, which is fair after 4 games. In my opinion, Schenn was important to the top PP unit, due to his ability to win puck battles on dump ins and 50/50 pucks on faceoffs. I think Raffl is capable, but it doesn't seem to be clicking at this point. |

personally I would keep Gagner in the lineup over Umberger but that said, I would put Umberger in on the 4th line over VV |

I kind of like the 4th as constructed. They're not going to necessarily produce much offense, but they're generating good forecheck pressure and aren't giving up a lot. I feel bad for Umberger because he actually seems like he can contribute, but I'd keep the lineup as is for now. |

Vandevelde plays on the top PK forward pair with Bellemare, and the PK is going good, so I'd leave him in. |

yeah, according to Randy M. RJ isn't taking it well.
The benefit of your suggestion is that late in a close game, you could flip flop Umberger and Gagner and have more of a checking line.
But the 4th line is playing really well, so Hak wants to keep them as a unit for now. |

I like how the 4th line has played also, but I'd put in Umberger over White, if Gagner is going to stay in the lineup. |

I am really curious to see Gagner - Laughton - Schenn. I would have preferred those two with Couturier, but maybe it's a chance to get Laughton on track. But Schenn on the right side is worth a look. |

The only reason why I said VV is because White can bring the physical aspect but the point about VV being on the top PK unit is a good one. Of course RJ can kill but still VV has been good. I would also go RJ over White i think. |

White hasn't played as well this season as last so I'd have to agree. It's possible that Hakstol is thinking something similar. By sitting Umberger for a game he will then be grateful to play even if it is a "demotion" to the 4th line. I firmly believe that psychological manipulation is a part of coaching. |
