I'd have to look at the numbers, but last season, when Berube started going to Vandevelde and Bellemare as the top forward PK pair, the PK stabilized and got better. The sample size is more than 5 games this season. - MJL
I'd get those numbers and let's not forget what Matt Read is able to do in case he hasn't done it yet this season.
Not to mention that its October and I think its a tough sell to the team, ownership and fans if you trade away one of your best dman for future picks. Now if it were near the trade deadline and the Flyers are in the same position as last year I could see Hextall doing it - nastyflyergirl
Yup, and I think that is what Jarmo is alluding to when he comments on the cost of a top 4 Dman. If you want a team like the Flyers to part with a guy like Streit in mid October, it wii and should cost at least a 1st and a 2nd or even 2 firsts.
The only thing can fix CBJ in the short run is both Bob and the PK bearing down and playing better or rolling the dice that a coaching change gives the team an adrenaline burst.

I understand what T'Hawk is saying -- I believe in the numbers that he is using, that say they should and likely will play better. I absolutely do
But at the same, I've watched them get strafed twice now, and it's not just Bob. Yeah, could he be better? Certainly. Yes.
But man, it is not just him. All the warning signs are there: poor puck retrieval, moving out a defensively conscious center like Artem Anisimov for a scoring winger...that stuff always looks good on paper, but then the next thing you know, your goalie's SVPCT is below .900 and your PK's in the toilet

Columbus was your team this season, eh? There is just no saving them. That D is....
If Hexy wanted to sell low, I'm pretty sure he could trade Luke Schenn pretty quickly and get cap relief. Right now, no need to even bother. Unless Hexy get offered a 2nd rounder for Luke, no need to rush.
I still place the over/under for Vinny putting on the jersey at 3 games for the Flyers. It certainly his right just to sit there and collect the paycheck until the Flyers buy him out. We'll just see how long the staring contest lasts between the Flyers and Vinny.
I don't condone fist fighting over sporting events; that said, when someone's coming at you with their hands up, putting your arms out to your sides to show how tough you are is probably the totally incorrect posture.

Matt Read is a fine PKer. I just don't know what you have against Vandevelde? He's done a good job for the Flyers as a 4th liner and PKer. I think he's better defensively, better on the PK, and more disciplined than White. I like White also, but I like Vandevelde better.
Hey! Weren't you around that night, Friday, when somebody told us to stop talking about Wheels on a Friday night and go watch some hockey? Well, that's what I did! Watched them get lit up by the Leafs! LOL

Well, they weren't my pick to win the Cup, but I thought they'd be a playoff team. Of course, on October 20, 2013, no one thought the Flyers be a playoff team either, but they have been a huge disappointment so far.

I agree, there is no urgency regarding either situation right now in my opinion.

Getting lit up by the Leafs could be a sign of the apocalypse.

What? Vinny's first season October 2013? I had is getting into the playoffs. Last season I didn't and we didn't.

I'll do the work for you.
Last season PEB and VDV had the lowest GA/60 shorthanded on the team. It was almost half of what Coots/Read had. Stats are actually in favor of VDV helping PEB. VDV had a sizably lower GA/60 then PEB; also, a significantly lower scoring chances against/60 and high-scoring chances/60. Stats would include 3v5 too, of which I believe PEB sees the ice and not VDV. But that's a small amount of the time -- should adjust things slightly, but still shows how good the pairing and VDV was.
This year, Read is #3 in PK time. Coots #4. They're the de facto second unit now 4v5. So, Read is in fact playing a lot still, just to clear that up. He's also been very good so far, maybe the best PKer. Zero high scoring chances against when on ice, 3 for. PEB and VDV have been the worse pair, but it's super early yet.
Losing to the Leafs is the hockey version of losing to Washington Generals - BiggE
I've seen the Leafs a few times and except for the game in Detroit I thought they played fairly well. On the other hand, the way they rolled over last season anything is an improvement.
