Maybe the Canucks are picking up part of his salary this year because Torts is joining CBJ 7 games into the season. We don't know how much the Canucks are paying so everything is speculation on our part (which has never stopped us before) none of us know the inside rules for this league.

Sure, I have no idea the inner workings or rules not publicly available. I would hope there is some structure in place that does hold teams accountable for the way they do transactions though.
Clearly the canucks are benefitting from this which is great.

As far as I know it is the first time since the salary cap that a team has financially compensated another team without a player transaction.

It used to be common in the NHL and still is in other leagues to include cash in player deals, again as far as I know this is the first time a team has paid wages on another organization staff member.

Not good or bad necessarily but interesting IMO.

How can they send him down without waiving him? Is there a window after you claim someone?

Conditioning stint

I think his salary stays on the books with the big club and he can play 10 games for the Marlies...

These conditioning stints are more common for players coming back from injury, but they do them sometimes for players who have been sitting for awhile.

The player, iirc, has to okay the stint.

They are likely only paying the percentage of this year.... since they were already on the hook for his salary.

Great journalism from them all that say the Canucks are paying a portion of his salary when it could be as simple as the Canucks paid his salary up until the day he was hired which makes sense. Like buying a property and only being on the hook for the % of taxes from the day you bought it and the previous owner pays the taxes up until that day.

Doesn't really sound like the Canucks are buying a pick if that is the case.

The Canucks are facing a tough opponent tonight in the hot Washington Capitals.
