Nice to actually see a new generation instead of no generation. I named Gillis the "generation killer".
I know we got a couple of good picks out of Gillis but look how many selections were made in his tenure. I laugh at the "credit due" reminder people keep bringing up. My selections like many of us on here worked out better most years. How the (frank) can that be? I'm not a qualified scout and I'm as lucky as a Palestinian....

Well you also don't have a Ron DeLorme. |

Calgary would be nuts to trade for Stamkos. He will be a Leaf next year earning tons of money and flushing his career down the crapper |

Would have to either be a sign and trade or have a contract agreed on before the trade.

Divesting themselves of the burden that is John Tortorella is its own reward. Getting a (potentially high) 2nd round pick on top of not having him screw up your team is really the cherry on top.
Good for you, Vancouver. - BlueBallz
Anyone need a Gilman, Henning, or Crawford??? Will trade for draft picks and a cup of coffee... |

So Torts value is a second round sometime in the next 3+ years, does Gillis get credit because he hired Torts or does JB get credit because he fired Torts.
If you're Nucker it goes to Gillis, If you're Marwood JB is the man.

I'm pretty sure Torts was fired almost a month prior to Benning being hired. |

I think Torts has been the new Keenan for a few years now. Teams don't play for their coach so the GM brings in Torts just to show these touchy feelies just how brutal it can be with a hard nosed wiener like Torts/Keenan. In a year he'll be gone and the players will be eager to play for his replacement.

So we traded away Ana 2nd in the Sutter deal and get CBJ 2nd for giving up the right to pay Torts 5mil, seems fair. |

So the super credible Botchford insisted even though FA, MG and Torts all confirmed it was Gillis.

Was it a collaborative effort, or just Linden? I though JB was in the picture by then.
Regardless I'm just playing on a slow day... |

I just remember his interview when a reporter asked Linden if he's ever fired anyone before. I dint think Benning was hired yet? |

Except FA and Gillis hired Torts for 5 years and the Blue Jackets players are likely the furthest thing from touchy feelies....
This is what makes this hiring so crazy to me. Torts is a guy known for getting teams to play a gritty lunch bucket style. Columbus already play that way, the problem is they have had absolutely brutal goal tending from a guy who has been on of the most consistent over the past few years.
What's that saying ?
Show me a good coach and I'll show you a good goalie? |
