Sure and I didn't like that either or the Pronger trade this off season. The buying of picks would be new though, while that can be accomplished with a player trade, there are cap and roster limit implications involved, not so much with mgmt.

Tim Thomas to the Islanders as well. All moves that in their own way violated the "spirit of the CBA" just as badly as the long term back diving contracts that Bettman hated so much.

But yeah, this isn't even a loophole, it's the CBA operating as it's meant to, which is crazy. It's not really buying a pick though, since the Canucks will be paying Tortorella less then they would be.
