Thanks Bill. The Flyers still can't put together a 60 minute effort. Good luck coach. However, a win is a win. Glad that Rinaldo isn't a Flyer anymore; I really liked his off ice attitude, however his on ice decisions were always in question. I hope that Coots recovers quickly. I thought that Neuvy received a blow to the head or neck from a stick. Too bad, that he couldn't pitch another shut out. I wish him well as well.
Could you give us the stats on faceoffs, and turnovers for the season? These two problem areas really stuck out in last night's game.

They seemed to play full games against Florida and Chicago. We all know this team isn't perfect. I think a positive was being able to fight back. This team would have packed it in last year in the third. Also, most games they seem to really clog the neutral zone. Last night was the first game I actually saw odd man rushes against.

Brandon Manning removed from lineup, odd-man rushes against ensue.

Logical conclusion: Giroux and Voracek are overpaid hacks.

Except for the last game where Jamie Benn scored his goal. And a few others in each game before that.

But yeah, last night was the first game for me as well.

Pretty sure last week's game against Chicago qualified as a "60-minute effort."

I wouldn't mind seeing Manning over Schultz right now. I think he has been subpar. Also a plus of Umber get playing well is maybe he actually has value at the TDL if he keeps it up all year. Could you get a project or pick?

I think that Umberger is still overpaid, so I'm not sure what value he'd have. The good thing is that he's at least a legit bottom-6 player this year that we're overpaying for as opposed to an AHL-level player we're overpaying for. Makes it easier to stomach.

As for Manning over Schultz, I don't think there's much difference. They're both basically the same player in the end...and I don't have any interest of getting into a 6-page debate over that statement with any one particular poster.

Even if Umberger plays well, with another year at 4.6 million, the best they can hope for would be someone willing to just take the whole contract off our hands. And even that is unlikely.

Still amazed that Hexy got a 3rd for him.

Actually, a third-round pick two draft years out for a 25-year-old who already had 220+ NHL games under his belt as a semi-regular in the lineup really isn't all that staggering of a return from a team who wanted the player for whatever reason.

Statistically, a third round pick has between a 10 to 15 percent chance of playing a single NHL game, and even if he becomes a regular, it will be no sooner than about five years removed from the original trade. That is the Boston-side rationale.

I was in favor of the trade, and I think a 3rd round pick is a good asset (although two draft years out is a tad less valuable in the short term than a next-year 3rd) for an addition-by-subtraction deal. I guess, though, I wasn't as shocked Boston parted with the third-round pick.

I get you. I just think if schenn can get scratched for his play then no reason Schultz can't. But I also understand the defense lacks high end skill until prospects start being in the lineup.

Did read Columbus talked to flyers about schenn. Also with the flames looking to make a big deal, would you make a play for Giordano?

Giordano just got resigned to a 6-year deal that runs until he's 39. I don't think the Flames want to move him (he's their captain, plus that deal was signed after they got Hamilton) as they're in more of a win now scenario than the Flyers, and I don't think that deal suits the Flyers' needs. They'd probably want young assets like Schenn/Couturier/Laughton as well as picks+prospects to move him.

As for Schenn, I don't think he should have been scratched.

Manning can't take Schultz's minutes. The AHL All-Star couldn't even handle the defensive responsibility of starting in the OZ 65% of the time. Schultz is down at 32%.

They are literally at opposite ends of the usage spectrum. Every dman but Schultz and Streit have been sheltered so far.

I forgot he signed that deal.

So you can't play Medvedev or schenn with streit? You can distribute minutes accordingly and rearrange pairs. With d I don't think anything is set in stone.

Did anyone else recall Rinaldo running Couturier in Flyers prospect camp years ago? Or am I the only person? I mentioned that to my boss (Flyers STH) yesterday.

Rinaldo's hit and target were unsurprising.

What a great captain g is. A true leader. Horrid 1st period, comes back and not only ties the game, wins it in ot. Talk about leading by example

The coach clearly trusts Schultz and Streit the most. They have gotten by far the hardest matchups. Medvedev and Schenn have got the easiest matchups, and Schenn was healthy scratched three times. The idea they would suddenly move to the top pairing is very unrealistic.

I would retain salary to maximize return, but Raffls play so far makes him more affordable anyway. Hextall will have options

I personally found the hit to be late but not some lead with the elbows, targeted the head and typical Rinaldo crap hit.

That being said when you are a marked player you can't even risk a hit like that. It's his own fault for some of the ridiculous things he has done. The hit on Letang last season is just 1 that springs to mind. Rinaldo just doesn't seem to get it and he gets whatever he deserves.

As for Giroux..I love the people that question his heart or ability to be a captain..How many games over the past 5 years has he shown an ability to elevate when he has either played poorly or it was needed.

Small sample size, but it's worth noting he has the same number of points as Scott Hartnell in half the games so far.

Maybe RJ Umberger isn't worth his contract number, but his burial might have been premature.

I don't think the reason why Schenn was scratched was due to his play. I agree that Schultz is struggling somewhat, but I would not be in favor of playing Manning in place of Schultz.

The hit showed me two things about Rinaldo we already knew. 1) that he is a barely functioning idiot when on the ice. Risking that type of hit shows an utter lack of common sense.
2)It shows his utter lack of respect for other players, both on his team and on the opposing team.

Couple things from watching the highlights. That Rinaldo hit was just another in a long line of transgressions. Don't hate the guy but he's gotta learn. How many does he get? 10? 15? Hope cooter is ok. Silly giveaway from G, but really came back strong.. Great comeback. What was Michal's injury? groin? The second goal that Mase gave up was really bad wow.. overall, take the 2 pts..
