Gagner's ES CF numbers are fine/good w/ certain linemates (Coots, Schenn, Umberger), and really bad with others (Laughton, Read, Simmer). He also spends almost half his total TOI with Schultz behind him, which hasn't helped.

I think you can piece together a couple of really nice combos in that middle-six:

Gagner, Coots, Schenn
Umberger/Read, Laughton, Simmonds/Read

Then whoever's left over replaces White on L4.

- Tomahawk

I am less certain that the person left over would handle that role as capably, but I do understand what you are thinking on this

It's really about a culture. Hitting should be used to knock a player off the puck and to gain the puck back, not to crush a guy because you can, and to teach him a lesson to be more aware. They need to change the culture to rid the game of predatory hits. Hit for a purpose. That purpose should not be to knock a player into next week.

I would try this with Umberger getting some DZ starts on the 3rd line.

Raffl-G-Voracek
Read-Couturier-Simmonds
Gagner-Laughton-BSchenn
VdV-Bellemare-Umberger

But if Raffl keeps coming up pointless and Umberger keeps flying around making plays, the unthinkable may just happen. You down with UGV?

Can't remember if it's the Caps or Ducks or both, but I would just keep changing the LW throughout the game if no success is found. Try Umberger, try Laughton, try Gagner. Could throw the defense off if their game a bit

Play Mason at center, Giroux on defense, and start Lecavalier in goal. They'll never see it coming.

Rinaldo hit last night was opportunity. A player was defenseless and in his sights. Puck was gone and couturier was already being pressured from behind. Rinaldo took the opportunity to throw a big hit. Not a hit to separate a man from puck.
If he just swung past couturier and actually made a play on the puck.

- J35Bacher

Rinaldo is short enough where he could have hit Coots square in the chest and still delivered a big hit. He aimed higher and he didn't need too. I don't think it is the worst hit in the world but unnecessary. Not like we did anything with the powerplay anyway.....5 min major and we give up a goal. My goodness.

No question, this forward group rivals the '80's Oilers. Giroux>Gretzky.

I thought he made contact with the head. I guess the Flyers are going to have to deal with this next game. I can never figure out what the dept of player discipline is going to do. Very inconsistent
