I thought he made contact with the head. I guess the Flyers are going to have to deal with this next game. I can never figure out what the dept of player discipline is going to do. Very inconsistent - Hextall271

I think Rinaldo's past should have been a factor, but the DoPS video does a good job of explaining their view of the hit. Hope Couts is ok. |

Boston's Zac Rinaldo will not face supplemental discipline for his hit on Philadelphia's Sean Couturier. Video: http://ow.ly/TJD1u - Vukota
Of course not. He's not a flyer anymore. |

Had a hunch it wouldn't be suspended...I still think it's dirty, but his injury looked more whiplash sustained than anything. It was a hit that JUST managed to skirt legality -- but skirt it it apparently did.
What bugs me the most, and I don't think gets brought up enough, is that there was 1 second left in the period. 1 (frank)ing second and he couldn't hold off on a vulnerable player who was his teammate for years. What a poop stain. |

So now that we saw White's impression of Rinaldo and Rinaldo's impression of Rinaldo. Who was the closest? |

if he was still on the flyers he would have gotten a 20 game suspension the NHL is so biased against the flyers |

The Player Safety Department has to go by the rules. The problem I see is that the rules need to be changed. For one, I think it should be illegal for another player to hit a player who is already engaged with a player, in a battle. That player is defenseless. It may have been deemed a legal hit but it's still a cheap shot. Time place and score. There was nothing to accomplish with the hit, other than a chance to lay a player out. That's part of the culture change that I want to see in the NHL. If a player is vulnerable, pass the hit up. If they hit is not going to result in breaking the puck loose and getting it back, than what's the purpose of it? |

What is doesn't do a good job of is explaining how Barrie got three games when the only real difference is he jumped a little higher than Rinaldo. |

Like you, Barrie was who I thought of last night. Consistency is not a hallmark of DoPS |

It wasn't his worst hit. I guess I'm fine with it not being a suspension, but it wasn't clean. But that's Rinaldo. It's why I don't like him. |

I was watching NHL Live earlier and E.J. Hradek speculated (and I sort of agree with him, I suppose) that the reason Rinaldo didnt get a suspension is because his next suspension couldnt be any less than 8 games and that hit didnt warrant 8 games. I guess.. whatever.

Possible. I agree it wasn't an 8 gamer. There's a lot to weigh. Unfortunately the inconsistent nature of the job they do lends itself to valid criticisms |

Watching Panthers-Blackhawks
I don't love losing for years and years and never want to, but I would be lying If I didn't admit that it's obvious what losing for extended periods gets you. Can't lie and act like there aren't six or seven Panthers who I don't like watching, and their defense is big and fairly mobile
Though Anisimov just made them look bad
Edit: Panthers answer 34 seconds later. Yeah, this team is ready to be something more |

I'm sure my question has been addressed in this thread but i cant backread right now
but i just watched the explanation video and it all seems reasonable, but I just wish they explained why they agreed with the original call on the ice, instead of just prefacing everything in the video with "but for the purposes of supplemental discipline" |

The Blackhawks are gonna have to do something on defense. Even with Keith coming back whenever, they are still gonna have to do something |

what bugs me is that in consecutive games flyers were injured by questionable hits and all of the opposing teams players retained all of their teeth......say what you want about tough guys but a forth line that can play AND dole out some mayhem when need be is much better |

Good post. It's something they need to look at. NFL has drastically changed the way players are allowed to be hit and in this case it's no different. In the video they mentioned how Rinaldo is allowed to finish his check. Therein lies the problem. Rinaldo had the ability to let up in this situation as do many players yet the NHL is ok with a devasting check being delivered to an unsuspecting player completely away from the flow of play |
