I watched the game yesterday and although I understand that no team has a great grasp of 3 on 3 yet but the Sabers looked like they were killing a penalty rather than play 3 on 3.
Only Kane used speed to get the puck up the ice but on defence, everyone gave too much room and soft stick checks.
Gotta be more aggressive. |

You're preaching to the choir. While it's not a bad idea to retreat and regroup, even when they did that they were so tentative...it was a pretty gross display. |

Thats the first one i have seen this year, so im looking forward to another one, preferably with 2 higher end teams. But it appears to me, as someone mentioned earlier, that if one mistake is made, it's probably gonna be over. I think both teams played D too much, and as soon as someone screwed up, it created a 2-on-1.
I thought it was kind of weird.

I think both teams were lost out there at times, goosie...it's still brand new - Michael Pachla
I thought Buffalo looked timid in OT ... afraid to make a mistake. Don't think Eichel or Ennis touched the puck on their shifts. |

It will totally be a learning curve on how to balance positioning with defense by simple positioning and boxing out and with creating puck battles and turnovers.
But you are right, one broken stick or bad ice causing the ice to make the puck jump (I am looking at you LA Kings) --- and it is over.
Oh well, what do I know... they won in the shoot out. |

To me, so far anyways, it seems that the turnover at the point or the halfboard is the quickest way to get the 2 on 1 the other way but you need to have at least one person having a commitment to close checking.
EDIT: Actually, only one attacker... two will get you killed. |

Any last minute predictions, Ramo?
I think we put a waiver claim in, will find out for sure in 10 minutes. |

He's not the cheapest option (not sure what else is out there) johnson is doing OK and whats his face isnt supposed to be out for that long.
I would have to imagine that Ramo was on the block first. And the only way anyone would trade for him would be if Calgary retained salary or threw in another player.
Just taking that salary off calgary's hands would be doing them a huge favor.

The 3 on 3 is definitely all posession based. Having good faceoff guys is going to earn a team some points.
If you commit to close checking and miss, then its a 3 on 2. I think thats what both teams were afraid of yesterday.

Yep - I was thinking the same thing. Waiver claims end now, but may be a little while to results, if any, come out. My guess is GMTM doesn't think much of Ramo's game and doesn't put in a claim?? We'll see |

I almost poop my pants at the end of the OT period. So many chances for TOR. Johnson held strong though. |

I think I would take him, but Murray doing it is different.
We could put a claim in if he turns it around and is brought back to NHL, but we will not have top priority when this happens. |

I would rather stick it out with what we have. Our past goalie pickups have note been very good. The goal last night was a goof bounce. |

I am not impressed by the goal differential. If the sabres had scored more goals their opponents would score more too. Teams tighten up defensively when they have a lead. The fact that we almost never have a lead suggests that we will have fewer goals scored against us than a team who is always in the league.
And to all the people touting that we are worlds better than the past few years... we have scored 10 goals in six games, which puts us on pace for 136 goals this season. How many did we score last year?
More scoring chances and shots means very little to me when your so called best players cant finish. |

I think Johnson showed yesterday that he can handle the pressure and Murray is probably okay with that. If Johnson had a tough night last night, we may have seen Ramo come in. |
