But then we didn't play some teams for 2 seasons. - cabin
I can get over not playing Arizona, Dallas, San Jose for 2 seasons if it means more games against teams we're actually competing against. |

How about neither.
Play until someone wins. - dadeadhead
I would be happy with that but I think it would not be conducive to growing the fan base. Especially with the instant gratification generation. |

No more AZ games so I can actually go watch my team more. For San Jose and AZ most of the fans are transplants who moved there want to see the old home town teams. |

Whooppee, we won a game against a terrible team! Our race to mediocrity is starting!
Cant believe how GMTM destroyed this team. |

I don't know how you can actually say that. Did you happen to see the team BEFORE Murray was brought in?
Now that was a race to mediocrity every year if I've ever seen one.
How about we give this team some time to actually gel before we say whether or not the moves that have been made were or weren't worth it. |

Ha no that was a race to the bottom. I agree, when Darcy tried to field a good team, it usually ended up as a mad dash towards 9th.
I just really liked the rebuild-style of acquiring 1st and 2nd rounders and letting them develop, rather than giving away soooo much to acquire a few above average players.
I still think Myers is better than any player we acquired, Kane is nothing special, O'reilly isnt that great and Bogo is closer to an average d-man than a good d-man.
Maybe Kasdorf will become Hasek? |

Overreact much, get a grip guy it's been three weeks since the season started. Give this team time, who the frank told you it would be a stanley cup team this year. |

From the last blog...
So, here's an interesting tidbit I just noticed.
I was looking at the standings just to see how some of the other teams are doing overall and while doing so I was also looking at the goal differentials of the teams.
Boston has scored 22 goals, but allowed 26. Buffalo has scored 11 and allowed 15. Both of teams have played 6 games. So Boston has a top notch goalie and we have a career backup currently playing every game. Most people around here also said that our defense needed some serious work as well.
While I still think the defense could be improved, I'm pretty impressed with what they've been able to do so far. Boston is in for a world of hurt soon I think. That team has pretty much imploded. - HonkFortheGoose
sabres are on par scoring with the pens

Some fans seem to be pretty judgmental 6 games into a 82 game season. With a totally revamped roster and coaching staff.
Damn leaf fans mentality rubbing off on some ? |

I totally agree.Tim Murray destroyed the potential this organization had at becoming a legitimate contender by overpaying for overrated players and giving away all our assets in doing so.
But don't say that around here. Or you'll be torn to pieces by the collective. You are not allowed to have an opinion about the moves Murray has made that doesn't make Tim Murray look like a genius. If so, you are not a fan, because all fans have to be homers and agree woth everything the Sabres do, or else you are just a crackhead troll who needs to post less and read more of their enlightening, unoriginal opinions.

Our top 3 forwards played for three different teams last year, chemistry issues expected. Exact opposite on D, Franson/Zadorov was the only switch. McCabe and Pysyk were call ups but they've spent time together in Rochester (might have even been paired together).

I don't agree with everything we do, but I don't think trading Myers and Stafford, who both struggled here, for a decent defenseman and a top 6 winger is something that is going to "Destroy this team". Even if it turns out that Myers becomes a top pairing D-man, that trade won't kill us.
So what other one would? Miller? Not likely. Zadorov? He has good potential but again, can't see that being our missing piece to a cup atm, Armia and Lemuix? No. Maybe Grigorenko? Nope. All of these players are ones that were supposed to be "Really good" but "underachieved". Maybe they actually did as well as they could but just weren't that good.
I'm not saying that you have to agree with it all, but I just can't see that team being better than this one in 4 years. |

Let's make a roster of what the team would be if Murray hadn't made those trades:
Ennis-Eichel-Stafford
Moulson-Reinhart-Girgensons
Foligno-Grigorenko-Gionta
Larson-McCormick-Kaleta
Myers-Ristolainen
Zadorov-Weber
Pysyk-McCabe
Enroth
Liewen

I'm not reacting to anything from this season. I have been disgusted by these trades the moment(s) that they happened. I will still root for the Sabres because I love them, I just hate how much they gave away for players that I believe are nothing special.
I think it is terrible that we gave away Zadorov and Myers, 2 firsts in an incredibly deep draft and Compher.
Why do you think Kane is great? Because he is fast? Sort of physical? He cant pass and has an incredibly inaccurate shot.
Bogo is very very average imo.
Oreilly is a good player who makes smart plays, but was it worth it to give up what we did to acquire him when we have Eichel, Zemgus and Samson at Center? Our defense stinks, and we lost a high-end d prospect in Zadorov.
I hate these moves not because we look bad this season, because, imo, we sacrificed a smart way to build future cup contenders to relieve GMTM's infatuation with a couple players. |
