I'm not reacting to anything from this season. I have been disgusted by these trades the moment(s) that they happened. I will still root for the Sabres because I love them, I just hate how much they gave away for players that I believe are nothing special.
I think it is terrible that we gave away Zadorov and Myers, 2 firsts in an incredibly deep draft and Compher.
Why do you think Kane is great? Because he is fast? Sort of physical? He cant pass and has an incredibly inaccurate shot.
Bogo is very very average imo.
Oreilly is a good player who makes smart plays, but was it worth it to give up what we did to acquire him when we have Eichel, Zemgus and Samson at Center? Our defense stinks, and we lost a high-end d prospect in Zadorov.
I hate these moves not because we look bad this season, because, imo, we sacrificed a smart way to build future cup contenders to relieve GMTM's infatuation with a couple players. - hawk33
We didn't give away anyone. We got players in exchange for them. Kane has hit 30 goals and was more likely than anyone we traded to do so again. Myers had his issues and might still turn into a really decent player but we gave to get. No one claims Bogo is a top 2 defenseman, but he isn't terrible by any stretch.
The only 2 players I'm semi upset we got rid of are Zadorov, whom we traded for another top 6 player, and Compher who has yet to play a game in the NHL so I'm not too worried.
Not to mention, our cupboards are not empty either. Rochester has some good players on it that could hopefully one day replenish the NHL when they develop.

Yes he gave those players away and got NOTHING in return. Zadorov is struggling, Grigorenko is headed to Russia, Compher has been passed on the Michigan depth chart by underclasmen, Armia is a bust, and Myers showed his inconsistencies he showed here.
But thanks for coming.

That lineup's going to give me nightmares. - chilliard77
Probably wouldn't have gotten Eichel, and maybe Sam as well since we would have been just decent enough to get 11th in the conference both years without purposely tanking. |

Let's make a roster of what the team would be if Murray hadn't made those trades:
Ennis-Eichel-Stafford
Moulson-Reinhart-Girgensons
Foligno-Grigorenko-Gionta
Larson-McCormick-Kaleta
Myers-Ristolainen
Zadorov-Weber
Pysyk-McCabe
Enroth
Liewen
Anyone I missed? - Zschalberg
One big omission - replace Eichel with Dylan Strome, because, without the Kane trade last year we probably don't finish in last?? |

Exactly, because it makes no sense.
I think you are confused as to what the Stockholm Syndrome actually is.

I don't give GMTM a free pass but do like what he's done. EDM is the perfect example of not going out and acquiring some quality young veterans to teach the draft picks the ropes. I didn't like the Lehner trade when he made it, like it even less now of course. I don't care if he's young, has term and isn't a UFA for a while; if he's not good, he's not good so it doesn't matter. I have no clue how he's doing the year in CAR, but, I wanted Lack. High character guy, according to VAN fans and put up solid stats |

My lord this is boring. Fine.
You correctly pointed out that Stockholm syndrome refers to identification with your captors over time. We've been held captive by mediocre to bad sports teams for so long - yet rather than classic stockholm syndrome where someone would become likely to identify with or like their captors, we as a sports fanbase have instead gotten to the point of reactive negativity.
Does that help? |

Not really.
Who was identifying with wanting to become/remain mediocre?
Are we rebelling against mediocrity, the Sabres, GMTM... what exactly? |

These guys are really bringing me down after a great win last night. Don't care if it was 2-1 in a shootout, don't care if we were down with 5 minutes left, all that I care about it we came out with the W over the team I hate the most.
At the game last night you could really feel the momentum turn once Phaneuf tried to run Kane. The crowd got back into it and it felt like the Sabres found their legs. Now, I hate to bring this up, but might the Sabres need someone who can go out when the team is sluggish and cause a spark? Desalauries is supposed to be that guy and so is Larson and Foligno to an extent but I didn't see it from them last night. That's just me though. |

I'd say getting it from Kane is ideal - a guy who can hold his own and, like, actually play.
End of the day, I'm less about the playoffs than building and being entertained this year. Last night, to me, was a success in that mode. |

Not really. In fact the only player I think Murray got obsessed with and overpaid for was Lehner.
Let's break down that he wanted patience. That's something GM's in sports don't have. Murray had to ride out the storm of back to back last place finishes. He put his stamp on the team by trading youth for youth he thinks better fits the mold of a team he wants to build. Murray also showed he liked some youth on the blue line as we see both Pysyk and McCabe playing and playing well I might add.
If he wants to complain about a trade look at the Lehner trade not the Kane and O'Reilly trades. |
