The guy gave them a chance to win in 4 maybe 5 of 6 games. I don't think you bench him after one bad game unless Ullmark plays awesome.

He did but he fights the puck.

When you fight the puck against a team like Montreal, you're in trouble.

I wouldn't cut off his nads after one bad game, we knew he wasn't a Vezina winner going in. Tampa is good team and he played well. He is a backup goalie, let's see what we have in Ullmark.

We all knew that this was going to be an up and down year - probably more downs than ups. Very few suggested that they would be a playoff bubble team. Most of us have them picking between 5 and 10 ish.

We have outplayed, out chanced and out shot a number of our opponents this year. We just haven't been able to bury our chances. The law of statistical averages suggest that this will change in our favour. I don't think we can properly evaluate this team for a while yet. Let's wait and see how they perform with Bogo in the line-up and Lehner has played 20 to 30 games. Then we'll have a better sense of what we have.

Until then, drink beer, appreciate the new competitiveness of the team, enjoy the maturation of Eich and Reinhart and chill.....

They out shot one of the best teams in the league by 10.

Like you said they didn't bury their chances.

Eichel looked unreal out there.

They lost 7-2, at home, against a back up goalie.

We aren't very good (yet)

Two high end talent is what this team will need to take the next step. One up front, one on the blue line.

Despite the score.

They looked better last night than at any point over the past 2 seasons.

Going to my first Sabres game tonight, what are the options for parking? I would like to pay as little as possible within a reasonable distance. Not worried about having to walk a little (10-20 minutes) to save some cash. Thanks for any help!

Pretty much everyone around the arena is charging $10 or $15, even up by the Bisons stadium. Go park on the street by Marine Tower apartments or whatever they're called. If you get down early enough you can get a spot on Perry St I think it is, under the 190. Right near the new skating rink thingy.

The strip of land on Miami St between Chicago and Moore St.

It's a 15 min walk and it's free.

Just remember it's 10-15 degrees cooler down there too.

If the tank is over, this is the only thing that matters. And we got smoked.

Yes it's more watchable, but if we are going to lose, it can't be by 5.

Our 2 wins are against an 0-8 team and the Leafs. We very well could be a bottom 5 team when all is said and done.

What concerns me is that an 18 year old is far and away the best player on this team. Yes he's unreal, but the other talent we have needs to start having some dominant performances.

I'm not doom and gloom either. I just think they still might be 1 or 2 quality peices away.

You are far and away one of the most reasonable posters in this site. you don't buy into the hype, and you don't let the fact that you are a fan cloud your judgement or analysis of this team. Good for you. I enjoy reading your posts.

We were 3-0-1 against Mtl last year and not once did we play them as well as last night. People are fixating too much on the score. Ennis, Reinhart, Kane hit posts. Girgs and Foligno missed open nets. CJ stunk and a few lost Faceoffs cost us the two goals that sealed the game. I like how the team is playing despite their record. And I actually look forward to watching them play.

The score is the only stat that really matters. When people ignore the most important stats, like goals scored, goals allowed and wins and losses and focus on stats like shots and possession time and scoring chances, you know they are trying to handpick facts to support an argument and not being objective about the reality of the situation. That is what I see going on here a lot.

These stats make us look bad, so we ignore them. These stats make us look good, so they are the ones that are important.

There are many players who get a lot of shots and scoring chances, Matt Ellis works hard and goes to the net and gets scoring chances. Hodgson had a lot of shots and couldn't finish his chances. Are they good NHL players?

I don't care how many scoring chances we miss. That stat is pointless, I care about how many scoring chances we finish and score on. That's the stat that matters.

If/when the Sabres get another top 5 pick this year do they try to go after a puck moving defenseman who is also solid in his own end, or with their lack of finishers up front is their priority another offensively gifted forward with finishing skills?

They went heavy on the backend last year and Guhle is going to be a a good player for them, I'd tend to go for a goal scorer. Before the last two weeks it would have been a D man unless they won the lottery but this team needs finishers bad.

- GilPerreault11

You guys should definitively go for a puck moving defenseman next time around, you can never have too much of them. Look at the good teams (ie: Chicago, Tampa) and look at the players on their blue line.

Shutting down opponents (goals allowed) should be your #1 priority as that is what's killing your team at this time.

You had a good chance to win last night but then your D completely fell apart after sustained pressure from the Habs in the 3rd period. A few weak goals from your goalie sure didn't help but your defensive collapses is what made you lose last night.

We all know that championship teams are built in the following order:
1. Goal / 2. Blue line / 3. Forwards

Look at what the Oilers have done in the last 10 years ... they have consistently drafted forwards and they wonder why they continue to be in the bottom of the league.

You guys are in good shape with Eichel and Kane up front, just acquire decent forwards to support them through trades, adopt a structured system and the goals/wins will come eventually ... but you will never win as long as your D is weak.
