The numbers are enshrined in the league's official stat platform now... they're here to stay. People will tend to bring them up when talking about the sport -- likely with ever-increasing frequency.
(Some of) you obstinate old codgers need to just get over it. - Tomahawk
i'm over it, i just choose to stay out of the conversation about those numbers because i don't (frank)ing care. i don't want to watch the game that way managing possession numbers and whatever the (frank) else is apart of it. i generally don't give a poop about the other stats that have long defined the game either and i don't look at box scores and examine TOI etc. again, i just don't care. i just watch the game with my eyes and (try to) enjoy it.
that advanced stats and analytics are being employed by managers and coaches to assemble the best team possible and create strategies for winning in part based on these numbers is fine. more power to them. if it brings us a (frank)ing cup, i don't careif they use a (frank)ing abacus.

Exactly. An abacus was good enough for Fred Shero, it should be good enough today! |

Probably used it to keep track of the beer and cigarette count in the locker room. |

exactly. it's one of the reasons i don't get into fantasy hockey. i don't (frank)ing care about the goddamn numbers. i just want my team to (frank)ing win, and i don't have the time to keep track of all this data for players i don't give a flying (frank) about. |

i'm excited for tomorrow night's game. i can't wait to see csp make another diving save from behind the net with 92.1% of the net available. |

Please calm down. Your corsi levels are getting too high with all this stress. If you don't we'll have to prescribe fenwick.

I've gone back and forth with it for awhile but I think I'm getting very close to making determinations on players without every actually watching them skate |

His poise and reads blow me away. He's a big guy who isn't very physical (though he's shown at times he can throw people like Benn away from the puck), and he's certainly better offensively than defensively, but he's no slouch defensively either. He's a 2 way guy through and through. His passing and shooting are exceptional too. People don't like advanced stats, that's fine, but players who do what he does are analytic darlings. It's really not hard to see why: his NZ play is (frank)ing fantastic. Watch him at both blue lines: pinching, forcing chip ins. It's a master class -- he gives no space up. I don't think Hakstol could've found a more ideal player for his NZ based system. - Mononoke
Medvedev is simply a playmaker. He makes plays with the puck in all 3 zones. His defensive coverage is solid. He has a real ability to get the shot off from the point quickly and accurately. A big part of being a analytics darling is shot generation. Which was one of the Flyers biggest issues last season. |
