Its recent, they've only been putting it in boxscores for a few years. It actually might be more useful for basketball than for hockey. - Doc_Sarcasm
It's a broad statistic like Corsi. NBA has a poopload of analytics that can be accessed directly from nba.com. They're miles ahead of the NHL in that regard |

Sam Hinkie doesn't believe in +/- - Mononoke
That's because there are many more numbers that provide better details. |

You absolutely said something along these lines. More so the fact that MacDonald is valuable to the team's success moving forward. It has nothing to do with Vinny, it has everything to do with Vinny isn't done. He's likely to play. - SuperSchennBros
He'll be in the lineup, but he won't be effective. |

When I state he's done, that doesn't mean that he's never going to play an NHL game again, it means that he can no longer be an effective player. You keep bringing up MacDonald and making up statements claiming that I said, as if that is going to wound me or something. That's not going to work. The only reason Lecavalier is still on the team, is that he has a NMC. If he didn't the Flyers would've waived him to the AHL. This is all going to play out, and we'll find out if Lecavalier can still play or not, and so there is no misunderstanding, what I mean by still play, is not just putting on the gear, and stepping out on the ice in a game, it means being an effective player, that is a positive to a team, and brings value and helps a team win, over the long term. In the long term, I believe my opinion on Lecavalier, will turn out to be correct. |

It definitely is, since there's so many more points scored in a game of basketball than goals scored in a hockey game.
There's nothing wrong w/ the idea of +/- in hockey... there just aren't enough goals scored to build a quality sample. |

+/- isn't the bad stat it's made out to be in Hockey. What made it bad is how it was used to state this player is a good or bad defensive player, instead of simply using it for what it says. That a + player is on the ice for more goals for than against, and a - player vice versa. That's all. Despite all the stats that measure something else, goals is what is most important, and what wins and loses games.

I might be late, but Carchidi had the D pairs at practice as: Schultz-Medvedev, MDZ-Streit and Manning-Gudas.
Steve Mason is gonna die of rubber poisoning when that last pair is on the ice |

Glad he realized it was Streit holding Schultz back. Just repeat after me:
Provorov, Ghost, Sanheim, Morin, Haag; Provorov, Ghost, Sanheim, Morin, Haag; Provorov, Ghost, Sanheim, Morin, Haag; Provorov, Ghost, Sanheim, Morin, Haag....... |

Every time I try and think about what the ideal pairings would be for the Flyers, I can't come up with it. No matter what combination is put together there will be a perceived issue. I think that's just how it is. I do like the Schultz/Medvedev pairing if it happens. The problem is that I don't like the others. |

so doesn't that mean that, ultimately, a change of personnel is in order?
and if that was raised earlier, my apologies. backreading isn't really where I am at right now. |

Schultz/Med will have the same problem as Schultz/Streit. I will leave you to determine the constant. What's interesting is Schultz/Streit sees the hardest competition on the team...Med the easiest. Streit/MDZ I have faith in. In fact I wonder if THAT is the top pair now. It has to be, right? Manning/Gudas. Holy hell, (frank) no. If MDZ and Medvedev can't even carry Manning, and MDZ was already carrying Gudas to a certain extent...this will be fun! |

There are things I like about Hakstol and there are things I really dislike. I'm seeing signs of Berube in him. With this said, I don't view Hakstol as the game changer Hitchcock or Laviolette from the moment they got here. - SuperSchennBros

That's been the case since day 1. We've always known they need a true top pairing, and that they don't have one. Imagine if this team had a true #1 defenseman that can play 25 minutes a night. Solve a lot of problems. |

You should just be thankful he was given 8 games. It might even be too large a case study tbh |
