maybe athletes should be held to a higher standard off the field
if I got caught smoking dope, I lose my job
if I went on a rant that degraded people representing my employer, I lose my job
if I get arrested and miss work, I lose my job - homiedclown
At the same time, though, if that's the case, it's because your employer no longer sees you as valuable. The negatives outweigh the value being brought in from your services. In the case of an athlete, especially a really good one, that's not necessarily the case. It's unfortunate, but if you made the company tons of money, and were virtually irreplaceable, or at least incredibly difficult to replace, you would not necessarily lose your job for doing that. |

It was instagram. - CoHo_to_B-Lo
and Instagram....
there's a saying us old folk were taught growing up...think before you speak...twitter, Instagram and other forms of social media blow that to smithereens and create a lot of trouble for celebs who use them |

your way off base on this one - homiedclown
I just can't believe that people seriously get this upset about things that athletes say or do.
We don't have cameras following us around all the time or the media waiting for us to blow up about some aspect of our lives that we don't like. We don't understand how they feel and we shouldn't even try and figure it out.
Like Taco said. These guys are people too. With feelings and all that jazz. I'd be more upset that he didn't care what we were saying to be quite honest. That would tell me that he doesn't give a poop about the fans at all.
But hey...what do I know. |

Hypocrite. They should be able to say what they want. Why can't they have social media? - CoHo_to_B-Lo
There's a big difference between being allowed to use social media, and being a good idea to use social media. She's saying it's the latter. |

who cares what Sammy Watkins says he's probably just frustrated he probably gets over a billion emails from every Bills fan saying hey you're glass |

No. WE don't pay HIM anything. Pegula does. The mentality that they have to answer to us because we're providing their paycheck is laughable. - HonkFortheGoose
The idea that we have to care about this guys feelings is laughable. Think this guy gives a poop if I have money or family problems in my life? No. I'll say the same thing I said when we were tanking. As fans, we are selfish in our endeavor. We want what we want and that's it. We have so little control of getting the things we want from our sports teams. That being said criticizing pro athletes directly is small minded and stupid. But just like driving your car, someone is going to do something stupid every day. I bet on the ride home you'll see at least 3 dumb and dangerous acts. But you get out of your car and start screaming at people? No, you let it go because you are mature enough to understand that this is how the masses operate. You don't damage your personal image for your lack of understanding.
But to me, this is a demonstration that Sammy is not up to the task both on the field and off of it. The Bills are a tire fire and it just got bigger with this incident. |

They can say what they want in any other outlet. That's not hypocritical. If they have something they really think they need to say, there are plenty of reporters out there that would be willing to sit and listen.
The point is, social media allows for people (not just athletes) to say things right as it comes to them, repercussions be damned. When you have to go through the process of getting a reporter to come hear what you have to say, it kind of makes you take a step back and decide whether or not it's worth it. |

No, but there have been times I've wanted to.
This is where the evils of social media come into play. It's easy for the fan base to attack the players and it's easy for the players to say things back to the fan base that are probably better off left unsaid. |

I'm just giving you a hard time at this point. I never said he shouldn't express his feelings or say he is upset with fans, but calling them losers and taking low blows at the middle class of buffalo is what upsets me. |

I'm honestly over this it had disaster written all over it you draft a wide receiver before you have a QB in place this is what happens..
but it won't shock me if we trade him becomes Larry Fitzgerald and balls out |

And I'm very disappointed in Robert Woods I thought he was going to be a very good wide receiver
I was thinking we're going to have a Demaryius Thomas , Eric Decker thing going .. oh well |

Roy would be gone if he wasnt Patrick Roy - CoHo_to_B-Lo
His situation reminds me a lot of Rutherford with Carolina. I think Roy also holds a VP title so getting rid of him is not so easy. |

Like I said, he shouldn't have said it. But at the same time, I understand why he did. You can only poke a bear so many times before the bear will lash out.
This is mostly the result of the team not living up to expectations at this point though. |

On the flipside, Tom Brady is a cheating, lying, crybaby and shows terrible sportsmanship. He embodies none of the traits that you would want your kids to embrace growing up. But he wins all the time. So no one in Boston gives a dam. |

Again, you're confusing "can't" with "shouldn't". |
