cant believe we have to think that far ahead already this early in the season

You spend way too long in the off-season anticipating how it's going to look, and then this happens. Season is a few weeks old and most of the teams below the playoff line simply are just not good enough. It's actually amazing how little movement there is in the standings. Add 3 point regulation wins and maybe you have a chance to go on a run but with today's point system, everyone just hovers around the same spot all season.

Parity is kind of boring.

There's the exceptions of course that will turn it around but honestly, the Avs are not an exception. They are just a bottom third team that is finding a hard time beating the other bottom third right now.

Bored. Let's play who says no:

TB Trades: Stamkos + Drouin
Col Trades: Landeskog + Duchene + (Picks/Griggs/etc)

Col signes Stamkos for 10.5M extension

Col 2016 looks like:

XXX - Stamkos (10.5) - Iggy (5.33)
Drouin (3.5M) - MacK (5.5M) - Mikko (.925)
Comeau (2.4M) - Soderberg (4.75) - Griggs (2M)
McLeod (1.33M) - Mitchell (1.8M) - Skille (.8M)

Beauch (4.5M) - EJ (6M)
Barrie (4.5M) - Zads (3.5 assume 2017 hit)
Bigras (.8M) - XXX

Varly (5.9M)
Berra (1.8M)

Cap Hit 65.835 leaving 6-7M in space for RW and D (not counting Stuart buy out, etc)

I'm not ready to lose Landeskog. I'm only ready to receive a haul for Duchene but I want D in return. And I want the D to play like Doughty, skate like Subban, look as ugly as Chara, and use a hockey stick as long as Enstrom. Is that too much to ask for?

and they cant compete in the Central with the way they are built and coached, no way they can just quickly turn int around this year by flipping on a switch. Those teams are so good, its hard to catch them, even now

Roy isn't going to fire himself. If he gets too frustrated he could step down but it won't be until the end of the season.

Wouldn't Sakic be the one firing him since he is Executive VP of Hockey Operations and GM?

This isn't just a "Roy thing". It's a Kroenke/Altitude/Avs thing.

For the last decade, it doesn't matter how poorly the Avs play (and for the most part it's been pretty horrible), it's like they've been given orders from "on high" not to say a single, solitary negative word. The exception to the rule seems to be Mark Rycroft's analysis during the intermissions and they only give HIM a couple of minutes.

I understand. These guys all work together. Their kids go to school together. Their wives do charitable work together. You can't very well "bash" a player on TV and then expect everything to be fine the next time everybody gets together for dinner.

However, there is a difference between GOOD analysis that points out the flaws (like Rycroft does) and outright bad-mouthing a player.

I don't expect Mike and Peter to be jumping around the booth calling people names any more than I expect Patty to start calling players out during interviews (like Torts). But please, please, please stop sugarcoating EVERYTHING.

Fans aren't stupid and hockey tickets aren't cheap. If they keep this up for much longer without even ADMITTING there is a problem I hope the fans start voting with their wallets and staying home.

Loyalty is great but BLIND loyalty without any return at all is just stupid.

Kroenke sucks as an owner (at least Stan does). Ask any Rams fan.

Ultimate yes it would be Joe who would be able to over rule him, but cant see that happening, they would have an off season discussion about the direction of the club as Roy is still the VP too. As long as Roy has both roles, cant see any firings,

He was signed to a 4 year coaching contract, so nothing would even happen until the summer if he feels like hes not the answer to the Avs woes.

But once they win the lottery draft and pick Matthews, the package deal of Crawford would be coming with him

First Overall to Colorado: Matthews
Second Round: Sean Day

That would be a nice haul.

I was at he Kings vs Jets game on Tuesday night. 1-1 with 5 mins to go, just two teams playing excellent hockey on both ends of the ice. I couldn't help but sit there thinking.....I watch a lot of Avs and I don't see this level of play for more than a couple minutes at a time.

Something is really broken and I still think it's having way too much Guenin, Holden, Stuart in the line-up. We're just not winning the battles in our own end, transitioning to offense and getting good looks. Feels like such a grind to clear the zone at times. I don't know, it's ugly right now and Tampa is no walk in the park. We're probably looking at another loss and taking a swing at Carolina...again...who shut us out.

ugh
