Johnson made a good save and as much as i think his rebound control is terrible that was a tough stop to control.

True, I could never understand why he was even considered our back up at the beginning of the season. He can't cover rebounds and gives to many up to begin with. but that goal is all on Eichel. Gotta know when that extra man is coming out of the box. He's been trying to do it all himself these last two games and its showed (can't speak for the 1st period tonight, just got home) just on that play. Keep it in the zone and set up another shot or at the very least don't shoot it so wide that it leaves the zone.

I think Kane is overhyped, especially by this fanbase. He is an excellent athlete and can play a physical and fast game. He is definitely by all accounts a good or better top 6 winger. But he is not an elite talent. He looks to me like a volume scorer. He is quick to shoot, many times unnecessarily early, and due to the sheer volume of shots ends up scoring decent production.

My friend has a similar philosophy to online dating. He figures its a numbers game, go out with enough girls, and eventually one will let you get it in.

There is an opportunity cost for Kane shooting so often, many times there are higher percentage plays that could be made. Many of his shots are from bad angles. His teammates may tire of his "me first" attitude and grow to dislike him(seems to have happened once already) And his book has been written and goalies are now expecting this from him and are caught offgaurd less often.

Still, not all players are elite, and Kane is a good hockey player. He is worth having on your roster, just not for the price we paid for him. Not his fault, I don't blame him. I root for him to do well and would love to be surprised and proven wrong. But I would never have made that trade at that price.

As far as overpayment the objective of the past two years has always been Reinhart and Eichel. I know it's kind of philosophical and not everyone can wrap their heads around that. So is it really overpayment if we got the guys we wanted and got rid of the guys Murray didn't want/didn't want to be here? I say a qualified "no" at this point. If it doesn't pan out I will eat my words without issue. But that's the wonderful thing about life is you never know what's around the corner. Sure you might get punched in the Richard, but there could also be a stack of cash, and then a punch in the Richard.

The argument is to make the best play available instead of immediately shooting as a default. You can turn that into whatever you want. If you acknowledge that 99 good shots is preferable to 100 okay to bad shots, then you can see that there is something more to it than just number of shots, and should therefore see that you are probably on the wrong side of your statement.
