i dont agree with your opinion on his hands/puck handling... i will say he seems to have a nice wrister but has to be set up nicely to use it... as for his hockey sense, yes defensively he knows what to do, but offensively, he's had too many deer in the headlight moments for me to credit him with :good/great/above average, hockey sense. imo he's a mediocre offensive player. - JoeRussomanno
He's got a really strong base... you don't see Coots stumbling or falling too much. He's got to leverage that somehow to create offense, find a way to bring the puck off the wall/from behind the net to scoring areas with more authority.
He has moments, but mostly he's too timid in the o-zone. I think that's more his problem than any perceived physical limitations. |

so they say hindsight is always 20/20 and a few seasons removed from NOT acquiring shea weber supposedly due to not willing to trade schenn and couturier... anyone still think that was prudent? |

i am in no way sayimg either that he can't improve, but after 4 seasons that's my scoiting report. not much dissagreement with what you're saying. |

I know its doom and gloom around here, but just a tiny glimpse into the future can make us feel a bit better...
Provorov and Sanheim are 1& 3 respectively in scoring for D-men in the WHL
Konecny is 2nd in the OHL - jak521
Wow, didn't realize that about Konecny. He and his team were off to an abysmal start.
Edit: I think you have them backwards, and I don't think Provorov is 3rd. I think he's 5th. Sanheim is 1st. |

Schultz came back to Earth last season shortly after Coburn was traded away. |

Like I never got the feeling from watching him play that he'd ever score 70+ points. I did hold out hope that he would be able to be a perennial 50pt guy. I'm not really confident that's gonna happen now, either.
All those Jordan Staal comparisons -- could be dead on. |

Yes he did.
Also is it me or can no one on this team handle a pass. I feel like everyone is having trouble receiving passes. |

Schenn and Couturier have been disappoints relative to what they were hyped to be but Shea Weber alone does not make this team a Stanley Cup contender. A lack of scoring forwards is as big a problem as having a crappy defense if you are talking winning a cup. If you a fine just getting to the playoffs then Shea Weber would definitely have helped that. |

Voracek was named third star of the game. We were dumbfounded. Honestly didn't think any Flyer deserved to be a star of the game. I should know better not to go to any Flyers/Devils game. ever |

I have to really question the on ice leadership of this group. I think Giroux is ok as captain, but I see a real lack of leadership elsewhere, especially on D. The loss of Pronger and now Timonen has never been replaced. Sure, Mark Streit seems like a class guy, as does Nick Schultz, but I'm not sure you really get the kind of leadership you need from a pp specialist and a journeyman. Also, I'd like to see more from the forwards. Jake is obviously pressing, and when you own game is struggling, it's hard to worry about others. Simmonds is basically in the same boat.
As much as they miss the leadership of Pronger and Timonen, they could also use a guy or 2 like Lappy, Danny Briere or Hartnell up front. All in all, a lot of leadership has been lost over the past few seasons and it has not been replaced. - BiggE
I like Simmonds but he is so streaky. and his streaky is play well and score a lot of goals to being dreadful. no inbetween. |

My slightly radical lineup would be:
Laughton-Giroux-Voracek
Read-BSchenn-Simmonds
Umberger-Raffl-Gagner
VdV-White-Vinny
Laughton and Gagner have been terrible at faceoffs. White and Giroux have been very good, and Raffl was great at them in the World Champs. |

It's mainly an age thing isn't it?
Guys like Sid, G, Bergeron were all kinda iffy in the dot to start their careers. Then they learned the opponents, got a feel for when/how to cheat, and became all buddy buddy w/ the linesmen. - Tomahawk
It's a weird thing because he was at 47% last season, which is very solid for a 20 year old rookie. Now he's a year older and he's down to 32%. |

Would anyone do Simmonds for Taylor hall. I think it would add skill and give the top line a boost. Also allows raffl to slot down a little. |

We'd have to add a top D prospect to get Edmonton's interest and include a cap dump to make it work.
Something like Simmonds + Sanheim + LSchenn for Hall. |
