I disagree, I think it is a sign of talent. The Flyers can compete against the Blackhawks and Rangers only when they play at 100% effort but that is not sustainable for a 82 game season. You have to be able to win on talent alone but you see what happens when they try that against bad teams; they lose. And the sad reality is the Rangers and Blackhawks look upon the Flyers much like the Flyers look up in the Sabres and don't give 100% effort. So it is deceiving when the Flyers beat a good team. If the Blackhawks actually played the way they do against the top teams in the league, the Flyers would get smoked. - psuhockey
I wouldn't expect 100% effort every game, there are some schedule situations that can affect a team. The issue with the Buffalo and NJ games is not talent, it was about work ethic. Are you telling me that Buffalo and NJ are more talented than the Flyers are? Most teams, especially good team like the Blackhawks play with 100% effort the overwhelming majority of the time. That's one of the reasons why they're such a good team. This is the NHL, if you don't show up ready to play, you can get beat. That goes for the Blackhawks, the Rangers, and the Flyers, and every other team in the league. Last night was absolutely about work ethic, and playing slow, without a sense of urgency.

Per Jeff Neiburg, Couturier didn't make trip to Buffalo, and Flyers are leaving for Vancouver tomorrow AM. I'm guessing Couts is out until the Western swing is over |

i dont agree with your opinion on his hands/puck handling... i will say he seems to have a nice wrister but has to be set up nicely to use it... as for his hockey sense, yes defensively he knows what to do, but offensively, he's had too many deer in the headlight moments for me to credit him with :good/great/above average, hockey sense. imo he's a mediocre offensive player. - JoeRussomanno
He was drafted 8th overall in the draft. A player with mediocre hands, and a mediocre offensive game doesn't get projected that high. I think he has a confidence issue more than anything, due to how he has been used.

Flyers this year are #9 in NHL in shot attempts generated at evens and third worst at shots suppressed. They're putting up really weird numbers that are kind of an outlier for a team among the last few seasons. The increased SA For I get -- the aggressiveness at both blue lines, with pinching. But to be so simultaneously bad at SA Against baffles me...even though by watching I know they are in fact that bad. But the system promoting this swarming NZ play and quick outlets up the middle should theoretically be good at suppression. When the puck gets in their zone it's a nightmare with failed clears and lost battles. The blue line play is much improved (except for a couple guys), but once it gets in...yikes. Weird stuff. - Mononoke

I thought the /60 was implied. Some teams have played more games than others; some teams have more ES time. Just a raw totals number is meaningless in comparing to another team |

Buttons pushed after all
This is pretty out there but I don't mind it. Raffl has shown an ability to win faceoffs when given the chance. With his skating and defensive ability he's actually a good backup center option. He will help Gagner keep the pedal on offensively I think. As for the defense, I assume 55-22 is the third pair. Scratch that. I am PRAYING that is the third pair in usage - Mononoke
Any offensive line matched up against a pair of Streit/MDZ has to be salivating. Not a fan of pairing 2 smallish offensive Dmen together except when trailing late in a game. |

Have to give the coach credit, he's trying to find a mix, and he's adjusting icetime based on merit.
Right now the biggest issues with the Flyers are, once again the PK, and Giroux, Voracek, and Simmonds. The Flyers best players, are not playing like it right now. Shots on goal, and shot attempts are great, but it's not enough. Someone has to step up and lead. If they expect to win tonight, not only do they need a better team wide effort, but someone has to be the standout.

I like that Hak is shaking things up, I just don't like those 2 paired together. However, considering what he has to work with on D, his options are pretty limited. |

I don't either to be honest with you, but no matter how you spin the wheel of defense pairs, I can find an issue, as you alluded to. |

Honestly let him take his time. The kid isn't exactly fast and has a pretty poopty offensive game. Maybe some time away could do him some good. - flyer_nutter
He's been as good offensively as any Flyers forward this season. He should stay out till he's fully healthy, but the team misses his two-way game desperately.
What his alleged lack of speed (something that is overblown) has to do with him being out with concussion due to a dirty hit escapes me. |
