I hate to admit it, but Ryan O'Reilly is such a better player than anyone post 2007. I'm sure Eichel and Reinhart will get there, but holy crap, he really brings to a forefront how (frank)ing poopty we were. Mediocrity was acceptable. (frank) mediocrity.

No problem.
I was happy with the effort last night.
I was trying to figure out if maybe Eichel is going to get more time on the top line with O'Reilly if Ennis is out again.
It seemed like he was with O'Reilly a few times. - thatsapickle
I think toward the end of the game Bylsma was just throwing the best guys out there trying to get something to happen. With the way O'Reilly and Girgs have been playing though, it would probably be good to get either one of them with Eichel for a bit.

As highlighted in Pach's blog yesterday, the 2011 Sabres were such a disappointment. The core was a wasteland.
A week ago when O'Reilly was less than impressive all I heard was that we need to give it more time to evaluate the trade with COL. Now he has two good games and all the sudden no more time needed to evaluate the trade. We definitely won the trade now no matter how the other pieces turn out.
And even if Lehner turns out to be a decent starting goalie, how many teams have found good starting goalies and paid much less than a 21st overall pick?

if there are 20 decent goalies out there, my guess is 17 came at the cost less then the 21st overall pick

Sure that hurts, but that spin o rama and terrible shot was a play that should have never happened. Dont try to do it yourself, your teammates are fully capable of handling a pass, and you'll probably get the puck back.
Granted if Johnson holds the rebound that goal never happens either..... - ImThatGuy
This isn't always as true in the execution and it is in concept.
All these guys are capable of catching the puck, but sometimes they're totally surprised to find it on their stick when it comes from Eichel - and also from Reinhart sometimes.
It happened last night with DLo, Eichel squeezed it past a defender to him as he was making his way down the wing in the late second, and I'm sure DLo thought there was no way the puck could get through, so it jumped over his blade when he might have squeezed off a shot. I think Kane took a while to learn to be always ready even when it seemed impossible.
