Watching that now... I still don't believe Edmonton will make anything of a splash anytime soon. I feel as if they're set up to be like the Penguins are now: top end talent without much identity/substance. They have some amazing players, but haven't had a sound backbone to help transition them all. McLellan does have them working hard and back checking though

Pitts had/have Fleury...say what you will about him but he was solid, Letang and some savvy vets to help lead the way (Guerin, Gonchar, Dupuis).

Still think Edm has to unload some of Eberle, Yak and/or RNH to get that PMD and shutdown D, along with a real goalie.

I was just looking at Twitter and it said Preds looking at to extend Jones and make him the top role Dman on the team overtaking Weber.

Weber is an interesting guy. His contract this year is 14 mil , then two years of 12 , then 4 of 6 , one of 3, and 3 of 1 . He is signed to the age of 41


That is a hard contract to take on. The only way a team should look at trading for that cap hit of 7.1 is if Preds retained salary IMO. That recapture penalty is going to be brutal.

That said , I think Oilers jump at the chance

Looking at the highlights this morning, Talbot cost them two goals last night....that's deflating for them. They should have won.

I think that's the key part there. You have the second/second half of their rebuild now, where there are kids teaching kids the ins and outs of the league, who didn't learn it from a good set of vets to begin with. It might not be the biggest thing, but having the Sedins learn from Linden and Naslund, or Kesler learn from Sundin is vital in the long run.

They should definitely look into him, especially with Chiarelli's past with Chara: having a big mobile defenseman would really help solidifiy their back end. They'd probably have to pick up another vet in the offseason, but it'd go a long way...

They should have. I understand that Talbot isn't playing in front of that great Ranger top 6 D anymore but man you have to make those saves. The Oil played more than well enough to win.
